A looong time ago I opened a UPromise account for my son, and we accumulated something like $200-300 in there.

Did you know you don't have to transfer that money into a 529 plan? You can just get a check: http://building-personal-savings.sui...out_a_529_plan

I hope this helps someone--even if you only have $10 in there, that's $10 that helps!

One of the ways we made a decent bit of that was by registering every card we could find and buying gas at the stores that kick back a few cents per gallon.

I have a decent amount in here, no way rolling in the dough, but I tied my grocery cards to it and after 9 yrs or so its going to by ds a book at college when he gets there LOL... hey every little bit helps right?? Plus before I discovered mypoints.com I used to online order and link thru upomise so that helped with the balance.

Sometimes they do promotions where you can get 10% off meals out. My husband used to do this for business trips, when the meals were reimbursed by his employer anyhow.

Thank you so much for posting this! I checked and I had $62.37 in there so I just filled out the form and asked my Mom to fax it from her work tomorrow. They only mail checks quarterly so I just emailed them to ask when the next mailing date is. Money is super tight.
