HI,

What would this tell you? DDs Serum Iron level is 189. I guess I don't have to worry about her being anemic -- but that is way over the norm. She is not taking any extra iron supplements (only the very small amount that is in her multi).

Any ideas what this might mean? Of course we got the results in the mail today (Sat) and I won't be able to talk to her doctor until next week...

Thanks,

Hmm...my iron level came back super high, as well. In the 200s, as a matter of fact. I had a complete battery of blood tests (and then some) because I had been feeling very ill for months. I freaked out when the results came to me by mail, but oddly, when I saw my doctor the next week, she was completely unconcerned about it. So no, I have no idea what it could mean, and it worrid me as well, but maybe for now you can find some comfort in the fact that I've btdt and my doctor felt no need to pursue it further. Interested to hear what your pediatrician's take on it is...

Well, thanks for the reassurance. DDs was 189 -- and she is almost 3 -- we will talk to our ped tomorrow. I will let you know what he says...

When I was pregnant with DS1, I had a high iron level on my initial bloodwork. The midwife wasn't concerned and we don't really know why it was like that. My "pulled out of my butt" theory is that we had high iron levels in our water because it was right before the city's twice a year pipe flushing. Our water had been looking a little rusty. I really don't know if that can increase your iron level but maybe you could have your water checked.

That is a great idea -- I will look into that. Thanks.

I somehow doubt that is going on because my iron levels were checked recently and were normal -- and we drink the same water -- but it is worth checking out.
