so I stupidly stopped at Jamba Juice before my 16 week appt.... my urine indicated high glucose levels.... SO for my 20 week appt (Wed) I had to do the glucose screen and failed that with a 155.<br><br>
Now I have to take the 3 hour test TWICE (at 24 & 28 weeks). I don't have ANY of the risk factors for Gestational D but it's still there.<br><br>
I've met with a nutriotionist & and have a diet/exercise plan.<br><br>
Anyone have any suggestions on how to handle the 3 hour test? Things to do in the days before hand to help? Recipe ideas to share? (I'm lactose intolerant)

I hate those tests. Not that I've taken one, I hate that they exist at all.<br><br>
To help you pass your 3hour, I heard that you should eat a balanced meal beforehand, and during the three hours try and stay active. Your body can't process sugar if it doesn't need any. Take a walk around the building. And drink lots of water.<br><br>
Other mamas will probably have different (better) ideas. Myself, I'm just refusing the tests.

Can you do the urine test again? The 3h GTT seems like torture for a pregnant woman -- we shouldn't be forced to go 3h without eating. I've never taken it. I've taken the 1h with both my other pregs, but I'm not taking it with this preg. I did just buy some urine dip sticks that test my glucose (I'm sort of doing a UP) and thankfully I'm fine.

Everything that I've read says that you need to eat a diet high in carbs for the 3 days preceding the test. Otherwise your body won't be able to deal with the big glucose jolt that they give you and you'll test high.<br><br>
Generally eat well, but no sugar binges. Just lots of quality carbs so that your body gets used to handling lots of sugar. I wish I had a number for you on the amount of carbohydrates to eat. Maybe Henci Goer's website?<br><br>
Good luck with the tests.

Thanks! I'm totally bummed and slightly stressed over this whole thing. My urine came back high once, so at the next visit I had to do the 1hour test (and failed) so now I have to do the 3hr test.<br><br>
ugh!

if I don't what?<br><br>
Pass?- continue to monitor, treat with diet/exercise and PRAY I don't have to do insulin injections (so I can have this baby out of a hospital).<br><br>
Take the test?- I don't know... I'd rather know if I have GD than not so I can do something about it.

I'm not sure I believe in gestational diabetes. To be clear, there's a lot more research I can do on the subject, and I haven't, but I have no risk factors (except being older than 25, wtfe) so I'm not doing the test.<br><br>
If I did decide to do the test, my MWs would have me over, feed me a well balanced meal, and then test my sugar. No orange crap.

I wouldn't have had to do the orange crap if my urine hadn't tested for glucose earlier =(<br><br>
I don't have any of the risk factors either (so this is REALLY out of left field)

I don't think the test they do is a valid test of your blood sugar levels. Better to borrow a monitor and prick yourself several times during a normal day to see whether your levels are fluctuating, if you can't tell by your energy level. The sugary drink is a totally unrealistic scenario to ask your body to handle. But then your OB wouldn't know how to interpret the results <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/thumbsuck.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Thumbsuck"><br><br>
Why would insulin injections rule out home/birth center?

Henci Goer has some REALLY good info on GD and the testing, etc. Definitely read them here at her site: <a href="http://hencigoer.com/articles/" target="_blank">http://hencigoer.com/articles/</a>

HeatherB - thank you so much for posting those articles. My doc wants me to take the test next week and I really don't want to. Those articles helped articulate why.
