I went to see a lady today, who has 3 year old twins. When I walked in the door (wearing 2 thick winter jackets!) the women immediately said to me "Sorry for being presumptuos, but are congratulations due?", I told her "Yes, I'm 16 weeks, thankyou", but obviously had a very puzzled look on my face as to how she knew, which she picked up on and informed me - "I recognised the elastic in your jean pockets as maternity jeans".<br><br>
So she goes on to ask me how things are going, just as one of her 3 year old daughters enters the room. I told her I had been suffering from terrible morning sickness, at which point the 3 year old pipes up, and I had the following conversation (which is the most hilarious and surreal conversation I have had in my life!)<br><br>
3 year old - "Why are you sick?"<br>
Me - "Oh its because I have a baby in my tummy"<br>
3 year olds eyes go as big as saucers, and she has a look of absolute shock on her face - "You ATE a baby?!?"<br>
Me - "No I didn't eat it, it's growing in there"<br>
3 year old - "Can I see it?"<br>
Me - "Well not yet, because it's inside my tummy, but when it is big enough it will come out"<br>
3 year old - "How will it get out? Will they cut a big hole in your tummy?"<br>
Me - "No there is a special door for the baby to get out"<br>
3 year old - "what colour is the door?"<br>
Me - "Hmmm, I'm not quite sure"<br>
3 year old lifting up my top to try and see the baby - "So can I see the baby in your tummy?"<br>
Me - "No, but next time I come to your house I will bring a special picture of the baby to show you"<br>
3 year old - "Can you bring the special door with you next time too?"<br>
Me (laughing) - "Oh sweetie I carry the 'special door' with me all the time"<br>
3 year old - "Can I see the special door"<br>
Me - "No it's not something that you can see"<br>
3 year old - "Well when you bring a picture of the baby, can you bring a pictue of the special door as well?"<br><br>
The mum and I were in hesterics by the end of this conversation <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/ROTFLMAO.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="rotflmao"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/ROTFLMAO.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="rotflmao">

i can't wait until my daughter starts talking more so i can finally hear the crazy stuff that i know is going on inside her head! today i was trying to get a snack for myself and she just kept eating everything i had and finally when she tried to take the 3rd cheese stick i said "what about the babies! don't you think they want something to eat too?". then she took the piece of cheese i gave her and tried to feed them through my belly button!

Omg that is the best part of this whole conversation. "You ATE a baby?!?" wow. Of course I somehow started to think of Zeus and his father .. I'm such a nerd <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/pinktongue.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="raz">

That was the best story! "What color is the door?" That was great and weird. Now I wouldn't do this for someone elses child without the mom's permission, but we have tons of anatomy books on the shelf from our student days and whenever my son has asked me stuff I show him a big illustration in glorious color. "There you go, kid, there's the door!"

I had a similar conversation with my daughter the past 2 pregnancies. I told her the baby comes out the same hole we pee out of. Of course this is not entirely true but I will be using some anatomy book pretty soon because I know the questions are going to come again once we get closer.

sooo cute. thanks for sharing. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br><br>
Last night at bedtime, DD (2yo) buries her head on my belly (not unusual for her) but then starts doing this odd head rubbing twitchy head thing. I say...D, what are you doing?! She says...."cuddling the baby!" <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin"> She also attempts to speak to it through my belly button, lol.

my 3 year old has seen birth videos, so I think she knows how the babies get out, but when I told her I had a baby in my belly, she squinched up her face like she was pushing and said "and then you have to SQQQQUUUUIIISSSHHHH the baby out!" LOL!!!

Aww, so sweet! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br>
My three year old keeps saying, 'And Mommy will go to the birth center and PUSH (and she says this while bearing down hard and scrunching up her face) and the baby will come out of her private!"

A friend of mine has had two c-sections, and when she was pregant again her 3yo often asked (usually in public) to see "the crack where the baby comes out".
