when he finds out that I talked to Paul Krugman this morning!

I called this mornings Wisconsin Public Radio talk show and Paul was the guest!

I asked him to share his thoughts on the world's opinions and perceptions of America's actions in the M.E. since Bush took over, including my opinion that the Arab world veiws our aggressive, occupationist actions as being religiously motivated (a fact I believe many Americans are unaware of and that I believe is at the heart of 9/11). Paul brought up our bullying ways of dealing with both our so called "axis of evil" enemies and allies alike. He also mention that places like France and Germany were shocked that we thought we could just wave a big stick at them and they would fall in line. He also mention how afraid he was for the future of our country. He also believes that we are losing respect and that the damage done by this administration will not be easy to fix. I can't remember everything he said but it was such an honor to be able to speak with him!

He will be appearing tonight at our student union and at Borders on Tuesday. So, dh will get a chance to see him at one or both of those engagements.............

I went to the Krugman discussion tonight, which was very well attended. There were at least 1200 people in attendance. Krugman paints a pretty bleak picture of the future of this country. The radicals are in control now, and are determined to eliminate any kind of social safety net. They want to eradicate all of the social programs of FDR, LBJ and even Nixon. These guys are so far right that they actually make Nixon look liberal. Can you believe that?

Clearly, the future of this country is economic ruination, unless we do an about face very quickly. Krugman mentioned this is the only time he was able to find in history where a country actually cut taxes as it went to war. He said we are heading for a Wile E. Coyote moment (this will also appear in Tuesday's Times column), where the coyote runs off a cliff and doesn't realize it until he is several steps over the edge, and he suddenly falls to earth.

Although he didn't state this, I suspect he would agree that the gross economic mismanagement we are witnessing now will do much greater harm and damage to this country than a dozen Al Qaedas could ever hope to do.

Perhaps we should make a citizen's arrest of the Administration on terrorist charges.

A point well stated.
