....is "gasping". (The best way that I can describe it.)

He will be sitting on the floor playing and babbling, and I will be near him doing something else. During the course of his babbling, he will stop and suck in a drawn breath, which sounds like he is starting to choke/gag on something. I drop everything and and go to him. He looks at me and busts out laughing with his half of tooth.

Ever since he figured out how to get mama to drop everything and come running, he thinks its so funny and does it for amusement. It never fails to grab me (and daddy's) attention, we always drop what we are doing and worriedly go to him. Then he busts out laughing. What to do?

Could be worse. When my cousin was an infant, she would get angry and hold her breath until she turned blue/passed out. Her doctors were worried at first that she was epileptic.

My dd does this too, she started doing that around 3-4 months and still does it all the time! Now I just

As much as it's rewarding the unwanted behavior, don't stop checking on him when he makes this noise. I know I'd get sick of my baby constantly 'crying wolf' but man that would suck if he wasn't and you didn't check.

Eeeek....that would scare my heart....especially the first time!

Lets hope he drops this soon!

Yeah, that's what's so annoying. It's just a instantaneous, instinctive, knee jerk reaction to run to him everytime he does this. He frightens me just as much every single time he does it. It never fails to frighten the heck out of me, and he just knows it is a no-fail way of getting my attention. Maybe he won't do it today.
OMG! My dd just started doing this, but she only does it when she is comfort nursing. She will want to nurse, then she starts nursing, then she will just make this gasping sound. It scares me half to death and I think that she is having problems breathing or something, but when I pull her away from me to find out what's wrong she just starts laughing. I guess it's for attention, but it's really scary.
