Subbing. My 13 month old is doing this hitting thing too. It's not learned behavior either so I have no idea why. Until today I've gone with the "gentle" mantra which he really gets with the cat, or just ignored him. Today he hit me hard and I said a firm no. He cried and starting hitting even more. Maybe it's just a phase that is best ignored?
