I've heard of Dr. Horowitz (sp?) in Danvers, but he is only accepting newborns. Does anyone know of any other Dr. around that is similar? I live in Gloucester, but I am willing to travel up to 30 miles.

Thanks in advance!

A thread like this (asking for an open-minded Dr., not necessarily a homeopath...) came through a few years ago, and I saved short snippets that others wrote for my own reference...not sure if it should be updated. I would recommend Dr. Ting as he may be closest and I know he's open to alternative medecine (my husband is a Chiro and he actually refers people to us). Not sue if it'll help you, but here it is:

"- Dr. Michael Golden in Peabody has been a great fit for me as he's open to integrative medicine practices and is very friendly. The exam room walls are papered with artwork from his two young kiddos. Sometimes the office gets really busy and the wait can be long so call ahead to check how busy the office is if you can't wait around for an hour or so.

- Dr. Andrew Ting, Family Medecine Associates in Hamilton. He is thorough, very caring, listens and never rushes you. He is open to suggestions on different things I have asked, even holisitic/alternative medicine. And I do believe they take Blue Cross.

- For an OB/GYN, I see Dr. Daniel Steece over in the woman's health building by Beverly Hospital. He is very thorough, very caring, listens and never rushes you, he has a great bedside manner. I have had him for several female surgeries and he is just so good to his patients.

- My husband and I both see Dr. William Boyd, also in Peabody. I don't have any health issues and only see him once a year for an annual physical (only because insurance pays for it, so why not?) I actually also see his wife, Dr. Mary Boyd for my OB/GYN needs.

- My whole family sees Leonard Horowitz. He's a family MD and a homeopath. It's a small practice, just him and a NP who's also a homeopath. We're very happy with them. They're great w/ our daughter, see medication as a last resort, spend as much time w/ you as you need, and are very respectful of our choices (like regarding vaccinations). He's right by the Liberty Tree Mall: 7 Federal St Ste 11, Danvers, MA 01923 (978) 777-8553 NOTE: As of Summer 2007, I’m hearing that Dr. Horowitz’s practice is changing it’s tune a bit regarding vaccinations and attachment parenting. A new nurse practitioner seems to be swaying his opinions, but I’ve heard mixed reviews.

- I go to this office in Middleton square: http://www.familymedicineassociates.com/
I've been seeing Dr. Phillip Burrer there for a few years. I switched to him after meeting him when he filled in for my previous doctor. The clincher was when I told him I had a sensitive question for him, and he immediately put down his clipboard, turned to face me, and made eye contact. Good listening skills are rare these days! I've also found him to be open minded to my ideas even if they differed from his original suggestions, which is in harmony with my belief in medicine as a partnership. In addition, the nurse practitioners have been helpful, over the phone and in person.

- I see Dr. Mark Allara, in Middleton. He's part of Family Medicine Associates, and is a family practioner. I love him, don't have to wait long, and also like the nurse practitioners.

- We really like Dr Levatin in Brookline - she is medically trained ped, but has a homeopathic practice...she is very ap, very "crunchy" herself.

-We ultimately decided on Dr. Janet Levatin (www.janetlevatin.com)...She is in Brookline on Beacon St. We have to pay out of pocket, but insurance reimburses us. We had our first appt last week and loved her! We have a 4 1/2 mo old and the exam was so gentle..mostly done while on my lap. She is a homeopath as well, but a medically trained pedi as well..best of both worls IMO. She does not vaccinate except for single does Tetnus.

- We're seeing Dr. Mark Su out of Newbury. He's AWESOME! I think the practice he is at is called "family Holistic Health" Or something like that. He is gentle and listens very well to our desires and worries. He hadn't brought up vax's to me at all so I reitterated what I'd asked about on our phone interview - that we were not going to be vaxing. He said "the choice is yours though, just be sure to be educated/well-informed on any choice made." Which, of course, we all try our darndest to be. So, he's supportive of delayed vax, selective vax and non-vax.

- I do not know her, but I keep hearing good things about Dr. Ann McGravey in North Andover. 978-682-3300. I guess she will work with you on the vax topic and is super friendly and promotes bf."

We use Dr. Rodd Stockwell and LOVE him!!! You do have to pay out of pocket - our insurance covers 70% but he is worth it to us.

His office is VERY Zen...calm..he is wonderful. I am his patient, along with my 3 yr old and 4 month old.

He does not vax at his practice.

He has 3 kids of his own, and from what we have talked about, his family is very, very AP.
