Hello mama's,<br><br>
I am moving to Windham County, CT. next week, and am looking for a holistic-minded pediatrician in the area. Does anyone know of one? At the very least, we need to find someone who is friendly to alternative vax-ing decisions.<br><br>
Thanks!<br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/femalesling.GIF" style="border:0px solid;" title="Femalesling">:<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/familybed2.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Familybed2"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/dust.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="dust"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/cd.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Cd">:

I don't know of any peds, but I can refer you to an awesome homeopath in Woodstock who is also an MD. We drive 2 hours for him to see my 14-month-old DD.<br><br>
Here's his website: <a href="http://www.drshevin.com" target="_blank">http://www.drshevin.com</a>

Thanks! Out of curiosity, how does he treat ear infections? Those seem to be our most common cause of dr.-visists.<br><br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/familybed2.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Familybed2"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/cd.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Cd">:<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/dust.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="dust"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/femalesling.GIF" style="border:0px solid;" title="Femalesling">:

I'm sorry, but we haven't had any ear infections. What he did for DD was prescribe a constitutional homeopathic remedy. She gets it once week, more when she's irritable, teething, or having sleep issues (her major issues).<br><br>
I have treated DS's ear aches with Willow Garlic Oil. We have also used colloidal silver.<br><br>
My lactation consultant referred me to Dr. Shevin. She and her children have been going to him for years and have never needed any medication other than homeopathics.

I've heard great things about Dr. Shevin, I'm thinking of making an appt. myself soon. I use Dr. Laurentiu Galan in Norwich. It's about a half hour drive, but he's very open as far as delaying/selective vaxing. We love him.

Dr Shevin used to be my doc. He's weird and creeps me out. But MAN if he doesn't nail your ailment! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/thumb.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="thumbs up"><br><br>
He's not my doc anymore, since I moved to TX.

Really? I would say he's definitely intense, but he doesn't creep me out. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/shrug.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="shrug">

Could be a personality thing. He's a fine doc, though, for sure.

the ped I have been going to, at our last visit, when I told him I wasn't doing the Varicella Vaccine, he told me that thousands of children die from the chicken pox a year.....<br>
I checked CDC and in 2003, 16 people died....out of all those who got sick......<br>

Give the link another try. I just tried it and it worked.<br><br>
I've been reading the lies about vaccinations thread and the lie your ped told you sounds pretty common. We do also see a ped who is very respectful of our decisions. I drive two hours to see Dr. Shevin, but our ped is in Avon if you're anywhere near there.

Stay away from Norwich Pediatrics. Twice they misdiagnosed our older daughters and they both landed in the hospital needing surgery! I go to Gales ferry Pediatrics and see Dr. Lovin and Dr. Watson (both women) and they have ALWAYS been open to our way of raising our children and respected our choices. Another option is here <a href="http://www.fwcmystic.com/11001/index.html?*session*id*key*=*session*id*val*" target="_blank">http://www.fwcmystic.com/11001/index...ession*id*val*</a> I have met her personally at local playgroups in Norwich and she is a fantastic person and I have met quite a few women who take their children as well as themselves to her.

I take my kids to a family doc: Kristen Gildersleeve. She's in Hebron which is not part of windham county but if you're in the Willimantic area - its not very far. She has been generally agreeable to me selectively vaxing and though she recommends the full regime, she seems pretty open to me making my own decisions. She is also not real quick to prescribe lots of antibiotics for anything but is more likely to recommend saline drops, cool baths, and the like for home treatments. She's not perfect but I like her a lot.
