I switched to this practice when my son was 1 year old. I switched based on what I had read about Dr. Linda Colon; her being supportive of non-vax and holistic based. We had our 1 year well-check with her, and I felt very good about things. My son got sick for the first time at 17 months. Dr. Colon was already gone for the day so we had to see her partner Dr. Presutti. Does anyone who originally sought out Dr. Colon have any input on Dr. Presutti? He did NOT seem supportive of non-vax, in fact, he said that since my son was not vax'ed, he was at risk for things like Meningitis. (My son had a temp of 100 degrees and a sore throat, with negative rapid-culture test.) I was not happy with this Dr. and started to worry based on what he told me (even though I know better). Anyone else have experience with either Dr. Presutti or Colon?

I would not recommend Dr. Colon (never met Dr. Presutti). My experience was that "Holistic" is the name of the practice, but it doesn't describe their philosophy at all. Dr. Colon pressured me to vaccinate and give formula, so I left. I haven't been able to find a truly holistic ped. in Broward, so we have a doctor 5 mins from us as back up, but we haven't gone for a check up since my daughter was six months (now 14 mos). Let us know if you find someone good!

I'm also trying to meetup with other natural minded moms, so PM me if you'd like to meet with the little ones sometime.

It's interesting how different our experiences have been! I can go into the details of what occured if someone wants to PM me. I'll just say that I don't think Dr. Colon is a bad doctor, just not the one for my family. Sometimes it can simply come down to a communication problem or personality differences, so to each his own.

Dr. Colon is the pediatrician I use. She is very into holistic and alternative treatments and is also very open to learning about new things. She has never EVER pressured me to vaccinate and never mentioned formula. I find it very hard to believe that she would do that without having a good reason. Dr. Presutti is an ass (it's just kind of like they share the office, not the philosophy). I will not see him.

What do you do if your LO is sick and Dr. Colon isn't there? As I mentioned, my son got sick for the first time when he was 17 months old. Prior to that, I'd never brought him in to a Ped for a sick visit. I wanted him to be seen because they were going to be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. The rude receptionist kept me on hold forever, then told me that Dr. Colon was gone for the day. So we saw Presutti, which was a rude awakening into what some of these mainstream peds must be like. (ie: Trying to scare me because my son hasn't had any vax's.) In fact, that was one of the first things he asked upon walking in. Anyhow, about two weeks later, my son was saying "hurt" and grimacing in pain, on and off throughout the day. He just didn't seem himself, so I called Dr. Colon's office. Again, the rude receptionist told me that she was gone for the day. There was NO way I was going to see Presutti again, so I just brought him to Pediatric Associates and actually had a much more pleasant experience. It turned out that he was just severely constipated and not sick, thnakfully.

So my question is: what do you do if your child needs to be seen and Dr. Colon isn't there? There office is about 35 min away and Pediatric Associates is about 15min. I don't think I will stay with Dr. Colon, because it's not practical for me. I wonder why she would partner with someone like him? You'd think it would be detrimental to her clientele.

I also find it odd that Dr. Colon would have recommended formula and vaccinations. I interviewed her before using their practice and never felt that she was anything but pro-breastfeeding. She is up to date and current with breastfeeding recommendations. She gave me a list of books to check out (most of them were written by Dr. Sears and one was "How to Have a Healthy Child Despite Your Pediatrician..." something like that). I was very impressed. She has always left the vaccination issue in my court. Dr. Presutti is a nice, old guy. He is very sweet with my son and I HAVE seen him when my son is sick. He has never brought up the issue of vaccination. We had been selectively and delaying vaccinations, but have since stopped altogether. My son had gotten a very bad ear infection (the eardrum had actually ruptured) and was quite sick. Because of his age and the severity of the infection, Dr. Colon recommended antibiotics. Not long after my son developed a brown tongue...it was bizarre. Dr. Presutti saw it and recommended we try coconut water. His feeling was that it had to do with the way his liver was metabolizing. I was skeptical and the only thing my son had ever had to drink was breastmilk, but I gave it a shot. Two weeks later and his tongue has been a healthy pink ever since! I feel pretty good about them. I drive 45 minutes to get to their office and I will see either doctor if he is sick. Now that he is a year old, though, I only go if I feel he needs to go.

PP, what vaxes had you given up until that point in time? Presutti was referring to the HIB and Prevnar vaccines, when he started lecturing me. So if your LO already had those, then that is probably why he didn't bother you. He did not seem to know how to to deal with small children, which was quite astonishing, considering his long career as a Pediatrician.

Hi everyone!,

im new here and i've been reading your posts. Its interesting because a good friend told me about this office and now i'm seeing mixed experiences regarding both doctors. I haven't found the office I'd like to go to because there aren't many that follow true holistic methods. Vax's are good and bad but theres tons of research to support the risks involved. My massage therapist only had vax on her first child and he has learning disabilities, but her two girls haven't had any and they are the healthiest kids in school so she tells me. i asked her where she goes and she told me that only for extreme emergencies she goes to her regular pediatrician but she takes her girls to a pediatric chiropractor in coral springs. I know, it may sound out of the ordinary but she says they really educate their moms and they don't suggest eliminating pediatricians.. They work with them. Her youngest had ear infections when she was 10 months and the Pedi Chiro helped her and she cancelled putting the tubes in the ears. She explained how it works and they also helped her LO reduce a fever without the meds.. I don't want to put those chemicals in my LO...she came out perfectly and I want to keep her that way.

I will get the information for that office if anyone needs it. I'm considering it for sure.. It can't hurt to get another perspective.

My daughter is 3mo and we went off the list from the birth center and Dr Colon was one of the recommended so we didn't like our first pedi (she harassed us about vaccines, so switched to Colon) First off, I liked Colon better than our first pedi, so that's really the only reason we stuck with Colon but have only seen her 2 or 3 times. So I never got the initial wow factor from her, she was just another pedi to me, but she didn't harass us like the first one so she was okay in my book, she left it as someone else said 'in our court'. We developed thrush from the beginning of breast feeding, my mw suggested gentian violet, as its messy i'd much rather use that, than a prescribed medicine.. I told Colon I was using gentian violet and started it the day before, she then of course wrote me an RX, and told me not to use the gentian violet anymore. That was the first visit. Then last appointment she seemed very rushy, and I had told her I think Emma is teething(3mo) I said she's been gnawing her fingers/hands like crazy, always wanting to bite on mine, shes drooling a lot, way more fussy than usual, not to mention the little white bumps coming out of her gum (was one, now two) So, she quickly looks in her mouth and said there's nothing, I don't see any teething (& when it gets really bad for our baby we use the Hydland's teething Gel, and guess what she's almost instantly better, yet shes not teething? ANd when she bites (not sucks) our fingers or hers, shes fine again. Then, this was third strike shes out, this frustrated me more than anything.. So Dr Colon had told us since Emma is EBF that we should give her Vit D3 supp so I have been reading up on it, and it said it helps with your mood so Friday she was suuuuuper fussy, never heard her so fussy, and I said to husband to open the box for me I was going to start her vitamins today, and also in hopes that it would somehow help her mood (i was very irritable and frustrated at this point from a few things) So I started to read the bottle and could have SWORN it says give a dropper full, no. After she gags I reread the bottle it says DROP full :'( At this point I FREAK out, DH and I both! DH called the manufacturer and I call Dr Colons office its about 4:45-4:50pm on a Friday mind you, I ask if Dr Colon is in, and if so it's an emergency and I'd really like to speak with her, and that I do not mind holding. The receptionist says one moment. Comes back and says shes in with her last patient then she'll make call backs. So I leave my name, number, and message with the receptionist. An hour and a half to TWO HOURS later...... a VOICEMAIL that says this is Dr Colon if you're still having an emergency please call the office Monday Thank you Good bye. In a rushed message......!!!!!!!! I was INFURIATED! I said did she really just say that!!! I explain to my DH how what about " hello this is Dr Colon, I heard about your emergency i'm so sorry I missed you, If you still need me my CELLPHONE number, or other contact number is........." OR another call or two back to make sure Emma was okay..... Funny thing, in our first initial visit she had mentioned when we call after ours and I specifically remember her saying this, because its something very important to me. She said and if you need to contact the office after hours you will get directed to myself or dr Persuittis phone and we can help you. What happened to those words? This has caused me to look for yet again another holistic pediatrician. We just moved to South Florida before our baby was born, and i'm not having any luck finding a holistic pedi that actually takes insurance. Most just say they use a super bill. uhhhh! If anyone knows of any good holistic pedis pleaasee let us know! We don't mind driving an hour or so. We had to drive an hour to the birth center, so a pedi that's far and really good, I don't mind driving for!

Hello all,

I've been using this office since my son was 1 years old and I really like Dr Presutti, he's always very thorough with us, has given us lots of advice on what holistic products to buy, and I've never felt rushed. My son, who is very shy, talks to him with no worries or nervousness. Although he's always received vax from the office, I never questioned it because I thought he had to have them, with the exception of the flu shot. Just recently, we saw Dr Colon, she was nice but I felt very rushed and was shocked that I needed to give him antibiotics (first time in 4 years) and I really don't like antibiotics, but turns out he had strep and also received ointment for his eye, which appears to be a sty but I just felt like I couldn't ask questions that I had and didn't feel that I was given adequate time with the doctor after waiting for 2 hours :-(

If anyone has any other recommendations, please keep us all informed.

Thanks.

Hi,
I am not sure who Dr Colon recommended, but we use Dr. Dave Kadel. He is the chiroprctor that takes care of my boys and is great with children. He is in Coral Springs 954-675-4541, good luck!

Dr. Persutti is AMAZING. We have been going to him for over 18 years. We moved over an hour away a couple of years ago and we still drive all the way down to Coral Springs to see him. We even call him occasionally when something comes up with our own health to get his opinion. We have not found a doctor, let alone a pediatrician, as thorough, caring and knowledgeable as Dr. Persutti. We have discussed many different options and theories with him. He has always been supportive of us searching out new, healthier ways to deal with heath issues and prevention. He has never been rude to us in all the years we have gone to him. I've never gone to Dr. Colon.

I"m surprised no one mentioned how dirty the clinic is!! The carpet in the waiting room is FILTHY!!! And the patient rooms are no better. Only the name is what is holistic in this practice. The place is closed in and has no feel of a fresh and clean office as a "holistic" one should be. With sick babies, you cant have carpet in the waiting room. The staff is seemly friendly but they kept calling me "sweetie", "honey" and "mama" which I cant stand and find unprofessional. After a 2 hour wait on our first visit, we saw Dr. Colon and got rushed off and told to take OTC meds for the baby's cough. Unreal for a "HOLISTIC" practice. Would not reccomend. Have been hard pressed to find a holistic ped in the Broward area.

Hi there! I know this post is old but I am looking for a holistic MD, ped or family doctor in this area of South Florida. We are relocating to Boca from Chicago and I know nothing about the crunchy scene there. If someone knows of a doc who is non vax friendly that would help us out. Thanks.

Hello MrsA27, we still use the same office although based on all these comments you'll have to use your better judgement and see for yourself. There are not too many holistic pediatricians in this area. I'm not sure of the age of your children, but my son is 8 now and we only (thank goodness) need to go to the doctor for his yearly physical and we really like Dr. Presutti. If you do find one please keep us posted, I believe Dr Presutti may be retiring soon.

Good luck and sorry I couldn't help but wanted to at least respond. Welcome to Florida!!
