i need the names of home birth midwifes on the western slope of co. or birth centers. If anyone has any info please let me know.

There is only one birth center in the entire state: <a href="http://mountainmidwifery.com/" target="_blank">Mountain Midwifery</a> in Englewood outside Denver. Tracy has people coming from all over the place to give birth there.<br><br>
There is a midwife by the name of Bill Dwelley. I don't know how to get in touch with him, but imagine he's in the phone book. You can start with him and get some other names maybe. You can open this <a href="https://www.doradls.state.co.us/lic_database_req.php" target="_blank">page</a> and download the names of all of the midwives who are currently registered and pluck through them until you find someone in your area. There have only been about 90 registrations handed out and a 1/3 at least are inactive.

I moved from TN that has at least 5 birth centers, expecting CO to have just as many or more. Boy was I disappointed. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad"> We live in southwest CO. We just had a midwife assisted hospital birth, but will NEVER do that again. We are actually contemplating driving the 6 hours to Englewood for our next birth (well in advance of the due date.) I say we write all midwives in our state calling for them to provide some birthcenter options for us!!! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

Marcimama, the only midwives legally authorized to operate a birth center are CNMs and they, with the exception of Tracy and her partner Nancy, are perfectly happy in the hospitals. Registered Midwives would love to have birth centers-- or even just work in one-- but it takes changing an outdated law and a LOT OF MONEY. Join the <a href="http://coloradomidwives.org/" target="_blank">Colorado Midwives Association</a> and see if you can't help change that!

I'll be in the same boat next year. We are moving to outside of Telluride and the only person I could find online is the Rebecca that pp mentioned. I emailed her and let her know our situation. It is nice to know someone else is familiar with her. We will be probably ttc this winter. We want to have this next one at home. We are packing up our house as we speak and can't wait to get out of OHIO!!!! I hate it here.
