I'm annoyed because the telus website oesn't say what it costs and rogers says its not available in my area even though i KNOW it is.

Anyone happen to know what is cheapest for a landline with no extras? Maybe you did this research recently and happen to remember?

We are paying a fortune right now for home phone with connect-a-phone, but our roomies are moving out so we are changing the phone company (its in their name)

It's $23.99, plus tax, 911 surcharge blah blah blah from Telus. Remember, if you sign up for long distance, that's another automatic $5/mo for the surcharge, even if you don't make any calls. If you don't sign up for an LD plan, there's no surcharge, but the LD charges are around 30c/minute. Buy some calling cards instead.

Rogers/Shaw starts at $29.99/mo

i think Vonage might be even cheaper, around $20/mo to start if you don't use the phone much (their plans are per min)

We have Vonage and pay $39.99/ month for unlimited calls. They have a plan with 500 outgoing minutes for $19.99.

We have had some call quality issues on and off but we are thrifty enough not to care. If you sign up online they'll usually give you a free phone adapter.

For Telus if you don't have extras with taxes etc... it comes to about $29/month.... I have found this is the cheapest so far, because for long distance I use Wintel... it's 25 cents/call regardless of how long your call is.

And with Wintel you don't pay the $6 fee that you pay with other long distance plans.

My mom recently got the Shaw bundle for internet/phone etc... and I think she said it was cheaper but that's if you want the answering service etc... it comes with a bunch of features.

If you just want phone, I think it's still cheaper to have telus...

I hear that the quality of Vonage sucks. Never tried it myself, just passing that on.

I thought Telus was still charging thier "system access fee" on top of the $23.99, an additional $5.95, which put them on par with Rogers. That's why I switched to Rogers, thier $29.95 includes the access fee and then I get a discount because my cell phone is with Rogers as well. My only complaint with Rogers is that if you have an issue and need to talk to customer service they can't do more than one thing before they have to transfer you to another department. I spoke to FIVE people the other day trying to change something on my cell phone account!

when we had telus with no extras it was about $27 a month with taxes and fees, plus 25c a minute for long distance which we almost never used.
we needed cell phones, however, and decided to cancel our home phone in favour of cellular only last month...which is cost more than double that and i'm so not impressed.
