DS2 was born at home with an amazing midwife. It was the best experience on earth. My 1st 2 were born in the hospital (epidural, stadol, baby whisked over to the warmer, etc..) and it was a really horrible experience both times... DD was preemie so it was kinda necessary LOL.. but still!! DH and I decided last night to bump up our TTC date to NOW lol.. I am extremely excited and happy!! WOOHOO! Soo, we have moved since ds2 was born to a new house with a HUGE garden tub (our old house didnt have 1 and we didnt really look into renting a tub) so we are considering a water birth. Tell me everything you can about water birth! SPAM me with info, websites, stories, anything! Its not like Im pregnant yet or due tomorrow or anything lol... but I just really want to know what I plan to do... Thanks all!

I had a wonderful home waterbirth with my son. I didn't get out once b/c the water helped sooo much with the pain. B/c I was at home and felt safe...and was healthy due to the close care of my midwife, my birth only took 3 hours total. I highly recommend this method of birthing. There isn't really a whole lot you need to know about waterbirths in particular. I think just being informed about every aspect of the birthing process, physically and psychologically, will lead you to a very calm, safe and satisfying birth experience. If you have any specific questions you are more than welcome to pm or email me

My home waterbirth was the most amazing experience of my life. My MWs own a tub that gets passed around from birth to birth (I know a ton of babies who were born in that tub!) and we had it set up in our bedroom. I went into labor in the evening and dd was born in the middle of the night, so our room was dim and warm and hazy--perfect. Since we plan on dd being an only child, I am so glad I her birth was so incredible and perfect.

I had a waterbirth with my 2nd dd and my 1st twin. I have the twins birth story in my sig line and at the bottom of the story is a link to a slideshow with some tub pics in it. It's great - I'd highly recommend it (for labor if nothing else).

My 3rd birth was a home birth, I gave birth on our bed and it was wonderful. For my 4th birth I wanted a waterbirth. The water was wonderful for the pain during labor, but when it came time to push I didn't like it. I couldn't feel where the baby was or if I was making progress and I couldn't get in a position I liked. I got out and went to my bed and dd was born 20 minutes later. So be prepared with other options.

I ended up out of the tub when DD was born, but it was great and very relaxing during labor! It was also nice to use the tub (not at a high temperature) during my 3rd trimester, it helped ease my back pain and sciatica.

Both my girls were born in the water. I planned on not having a waterbirth w/ my 2nd, just to try it another way, but water makes things SO much easier. You can read my birth stories (one hospitals waterbirth, one home), at www.babystepsonline.net/laura.htm. I love waterbirth. I also think for my hospital birth w/ all the people in the room, the tub helped me feel insulated and more private.

I would certainly recommend a waterbirth. My second birth was amazing. I will pm you a link to look at my birth album so take a peek if you like...There is a really cool shot where you can see her head born underwater...don't worry, it's not too graphic!

Fellow Nov. 2006 mama - can I peek at her waterbirth, too?

I had a home waterbirth with DS 12 years ago. I had birthing pools with my DD's, but birthed waterside for DD#1 and on the bed for DD#2. Waterbirth at home was much more common in England where I had DS, than it is here where I am in the US.
