I had my DS1 in a hospital. I held him for a minute before he was taken away from me. DS2 was born at home last week and hasn't been away from me at all, and I notice that he's all smiles! DS1 smiled sometimes, but DS2 smiles ALL THE TIME!!

I'm curious.. Anyone else notice this with their homebirthed vs. hospital birthed babies?

I think it's just a personality trait. My firstborn (long, complicated, traumatic hospital birth) was a smiley, giggly baby and toddler while my second son (short, peaceful, outdoor waterbirth) has always been a more serious child. He didn't smile or laugh a lot as an infant (or cry a lot either).

IME, it's all about the baby's temperament
