Hi,

I've been reading here and elsewhere about getting a homebirth covered by Tricare and it looks like my best bet is to find a CNM. However in all my googling the only CNMs I can find are the Lonestar Midwives, and apparently they do hospital births.

Does anyone know of a CNM in SA or any of the surrounding areas who will do homebirths? Thanks!

yes yes yes!! I had a homebirth with my midwife Alisa Voss. She is amazing! I would HIGHLY recommend her. As long as we are in SA, we will use her. I want more babies just so we can hang out on a regular basis... lol! I don't know if she would be covered by TriCare though - I don't think they cover homebirths at all? I could be wrong...

http://www.alisavoss.com/ << here is her website.

I contacted Alisa when I was 3mo along and she called back immediately to schedule an interview that very next day! She was always available, positive and encouraging, has been a midwife for 20 years. She has become a friend. She also has a Birthing From Within class that was a huge blessed to us.

Also, there is a midwife in SA named Salli Gonzales. She has 8 children and has been a doula for years, and a midwife for just over a year, I think. She was the assistant midwife at my ds's birth. She is very mellow (Alisa is very bright and cheery, so whatever fits your personality best . She also came for my ds first checkup, we liked her a lot! Her website is http://www.empowermentbirthing.com.

Thanks for the response! I actually met with Alisa already and absolutely loved her! I will most likely be hiring her for our birth. Problem is that she's not a Certified Nurse Midwife (she is a licensed midwife though) and she said that my insurance doesn't always cover any of her services. Whereas if I could find a CNM apparently the insurance won't have a problem with paying. Unfortunately I don't even know if CNMs are able to attend homebirths in Texas and I don't want to birth in a hospital, even with a CNM. But I think everything will be fine with Alisa regardless!

CNM's do provide homebirth services in Texas. However, I don't know any in San Antonio. There are several in Austin that provide homebirth services.
