Hi...

I have asked this in the homebirth forum a while back. But thought I would ask in the FYT area for better luck.

We will be losing our insurance at the end of the month and will not be able to afford a hospital birth out of pocket.

I have always been interested in homebirth and now I have a reason to really look into it!

If anyone could PLEASE!!! help me it would be great... I have names of two "underground" midwives already but they are too far away to come to me... I live in Clifton Park which is 30 minutes north of Albany and less than 30 minutes south of Saratoga...

TIA!!

I only know of someone who is in Albany. Have you looked into unassisted birth?

I have thought about it but am not comfortable with it... I had a horrible birth experience with my first and shoulder dystocia with my second (I know this doesn't mean it will happen again). Not to mention my dh would NEVER go for that...

Do you think that person would not drive 30 minutes to Clifton Park?

Call The Family Life Center in Albany, they should be able to put you in the right direction. If you would like a postpartum doula, contact me

I was recently at my son's orthopaedist and found a sort of "natural wellness" (local) publication in the waiting room. It was chocked full of all kinds of holisitic and alternative care resources in the Capital District area (particularly, the Saratoga area). I can't remember the name of it, but it had a great article on homebirth and resources to contact for more info.

Orthopaedic Associates of Saratoga on Care Lane (just past the hospital, directly across the road from One West Medical) had a stack of copies in their waiting room.

Hi there,

You can contact many local Doulas who can offer a steer in the right direction. Naming anyone outright would obviously be unsafe.... I am a doula in Troy and can speak for many doulas in the area when I say that we are usually willing to travel throughout the capital district. Contact me if you'd like the names of people who can help you out, and also if you are looking into having a doula present! And good luck!!!
