OK, so we're nearly there. How are you feeling? Excited? Calm and mellow? Panicking?

Our big news is that our builder told us that he's not expecting to be back after Christmas, so I can stop sending this baby 42+ week vibes and he can just come when he's ready instead It ALSO means that I can go ahead and order my birth pool (BPIAB- my neighbour gets a discount because she's an antenatal teacher, so we get it cheap. And cos you have to use liners : it's not like we can't use it for demo purposes later.)

Hi there mamas!
I'm definitely getting excited, especially as we talked about ordering our birth supplies with our midwife at our last prenatal on Monday! I'm 31 weeks tomorrow.

However, we are moving this month into a new house December 30, and so I'll only have about a month or so to move in and get nested/settled before our little bundle arrives. Lots of packing to do before then, oh joy! A great way to break in our new abode though!

I'm having visions of a waterbirth in front of a crackling fire!
My first homebirth was so smooth and relatively "easy", I'm just hoping this one goes as well or better. Baby is in great LOA, head down position! We've been so busy lately that it is finally really hitting me that we are actually going to add a 4th, living, breathing, unique creature to our family. WOW! What fun!

And yes, flapjack, a little panicky imagining how we're going to manage with 2 little needy gippers, as it becomes more and more real!!

I can't wait to get through the holidays and get to this baby! I ordered my pool today!! YEAH! I got the BPIB too flapjack! I figure we'll use it again and I'm a doula so there is a chance I may be able to rent it out so I went for it. I'm excited that it is so deep. I am thinking of lists to make and what to do as far as anyone being here and those sorts of things. I wish the cleaning part of nesting would kick in! I am very excited to birth this baby at home!

Hey! My MW just left my house! And things are looking good. My kids has fun with the doppler goo, Sammy played my belly like a DJ on a turn table. Then I realized how it must sound to baby, so he had to stop. And then they fought over who was going to help Joyce measure my belly. That was fun. We decided to meet every 2 weeks now, I wasn't going to , but why not, I can't believe how close we are getting! Her assistant will come with her for the next few visits so that we can get to know each other and she is hoping we can get my last MW to maybe make an appearance at the birth, but she has been on hiatus to be with her kids, so if she's available, that would be great, But I will already have my BF here , my SIL, and maybe a friend of mine from Texas, so I think that is more than enough people to have around. Dh sleeps through my labor's. He was present for Sammy (#2) and I wanted to kill him, he was more interested in the color of his Fruit Loops than me laboring, I'm not kidding. First there was the issue of him talking when I only wanted quiet, and when I told him to be quiet he got offended and almost walked out of the hospital. When my BF got him to calm down, he went to the kitchen for food and asked me when he got back if I thought that maybe they changed the color of the Fruit Loops. It was stressful, so now he is not allowed to be at my labors. He slept through Sarah (#1) and he slept through Rachel (#3). We woke him up for the birth and then he went back to sleep. Works for me.

I'm so excited that I get to weigh in on this conversation now!
My midwife hasn't told me yet what I need to get for the birth kit, I should email her, but I can't wait to start all of the preparations. I just can't wait for the whole thing to start, yay!

hi! i just started getting basics together... i need to find a waterproof matress cover. my mw suggests just getting a flannel-backed tablecloth, but why not just get something that won't move around on the bed? i'm not *planning* on delivering on my bed anyway, so it'll mostly be for pp bleeding, and i don't want to think about laying on a tablecloth while i'm trying to relax and nurse my LO. mw also has a kick ass tub that i can rent, and i don't know what kind it is, but i'm super excited about it. guess i should ask her about renting that...:

Hi Mamas,

We had our 30 week midwife visit and they dropped off our birthing pool- an aqua doula. It sounds fancy! My bedroom is awfully cluttered and unorganized so having the pool has made me have to clean up my clothes and make space. I really only have the month of December to prepare as Jan and Feb are huge work months for me. We had our first childbirth class over the weekend and it was informative.

We have the list of supplies from the midwives that we have to purchase- it is huge!!! I can't believe I don't have any of that stuff lying around. There are two lists- one for a kit we purchase on-line and the other is things we put together ourselves. Wish me luck!!

When does that nesting/ cleaning thing kick in? Could it please start now?

Sending love,
It's birthkit and birth pool ordering time already isn't it!?!

We just went to see our homebirth midwife yesterday (its a 2.5 hour trek so this is one of only 2 visits we will have with her at her home, she will come visit us at 36 weeks and then of course for the birth but other than that I just have my prenatal care with a group of CNMs and call her to report the stats and chat). It was so great seeing her and have her palpate the baby. He is ROT right now but at least he's head down and she said he probably won't settle into anterior or posterior until 32-34 weeks so I'm going to go for a chiro adjustment this week and I'm trying to do all the things www.spinningbabies.com suggests to ensure an anterior baby come birth time.

We got our pool and pump when we saw her yesterday (she has plenty on hand and we just pay her for it) but I will have to wait until I get my paycheck this week to order the birth kit.

oh I'm so relieved to know we worked everything out and barring any complications, I will never have to set foot in a hospital!

I am getting excited. Very excited! And nervous!!

I just started thinking about birth kit/pool stuff -- I will talk to my mw at my next appt about these things. We were supposed to meet today but she had to cancel - I should be seeing her sometime during week 29. We're not that far from the every 2 weeks, every 1 week -- AGH!!! That is so amazing to me. I can't believe how close we are to having the baby.

My brain is starting to nest but my body isn't following. I am obsessing over decluttering and getting organized, but when I do it I get tired really fast. Boo!

Exactly!! I'm all about making lists and organizing but not so big on cleaning and physically organizing! I can't wait for that to change!

my poor husband keeps hearing about my list...sadly, he's not motivated to carry it out for me. yet.

You guys are getting me motivated! Mentally I'm putting everything off until Jan, but I think my pregnant self has other plans. For some reason I'm on this kick of getting rid of EVERYTHING in our house. I want it simple and easy for this birth, without all the unnecessary crap we've been toting around. Sent DH to the donation bins today with 6 bags and like 500 lbs of "stuff" from our closets!

I cannot even begin to think of birth preparation, lol! The holidays are so much fun but I'm so occupied that thoughts of baby and birth have taken a backseat almost! I mean, I love the baby deeply and at night when it's just us, I love bonding with him but that is about all I can handle right now. After Christmas, when I have some time that I can hopefully keep the older kids busy with their new toys, I'll start gathering things on my birth list.

Last time I put everything in a huge rubbermaid tote that sat in my bedroom. That is probably what we'll do this time as it worked out really well. Then I'll wash some of his clothes, stock the changing table and start working on some freezer meals. No birth pool for us though. The bathtub is big enough if I decide to birth in the water, however the last two times I hit transition I wanted out of the tub immediately!

This will probably be us too. I just got confirmation that the person I have asked to look over our DDs during the birth will for sure attend. That is such a relief!

I am in the process of scheduling pregnancy portraits to be taken over the Christmas break. I went through all of the "gear" over the Thanksgiving break and made up a baby wish list. We are headed to a prenatal appointment on Friday and although our MW purchases a birth kit for us I still want to know what is in it so I can purchase anything else that we may want to have.

Not long now!

I'm feeling calm about the birth, but also excited!! I have not yet ordered anything for the birthing kit (I will I think in about 3 weeks with that paycheck). So far, I feel mentally set. I've pretty much put the holiday on the backburner because I just don't see myself unpacking AND putting up the tree and putting away the tree. I could see that tree sitting there until august, the rate I"m going!! But my mom made me a wreath with red and green disco balls on it (groovy man!) and that's good enough for me!

It's starting to sink in that it's approaching and I find myself working a little bit more at unpacking all those boxes DP brought with him when he finally moved here... back in May (hmmm any wonder when the conception time was? heh!). DP just finished the bathroom sink last weekend (We hat to redo the entire bathroom, all the pipes were busted), so no more bending over in the tub to wash my hands and brush my teeth!

I'm also starting to be more diligent about the healthy side of things. I've been bad about eating greens, and while I"m not GREAT now, at least I've been eating a spinach omelet in the mornings. I"m still choking down my midwife's whole orange (peel and all) slushy concoction a few times a week. Also getting better about waking up for those early morning workouts. Funny I thought it would be harder when it got cold! But maybe it's just because I"m up so much at night anyways, I finally get to the stage where I gotta pee anyways, or I'm up anyways to pee, so I get all suited up and ready to work out. I don't know if we will stick to walks though, it was something like 15 degrees today!!!

I am planning a HB for this baby - DD was supposed to be a hb too, but she came early, and I didn't have time to get my supplies together, so we had a very easy "home birth at the hospital" with DH and midwives.

I just don't know where in the house this will all happen. I'm thinking our bedroom, it's a nice room, and I'm going to be spending a lot of time there anyhow - and it's close to the bathroom.

Where in your homes are you planning on HB-ing?

Wherever the plastic isn't DS1 was meant to be born in the living room, was born on a toilet. DS2 was meant to be born in the living room, was born on the bedroom floor (again, no plastic) and DD was meant to be born in the living room and was born on the top of my pristine, starched, white Egyptian cotton duvet cover. With no plastic involved anywhere in the several layers of bedding that I really wanted to be sleeping in postpartum. My next door neighbour is an antenatal teacher, and she's on "prepare the house for birth" and "run the postpartum bath" duty for me, bless her. I'm planning on having the bed and the living room prepared, and a tub in the downstairs bathroom/ shower room.
We're trying to get the homebirth support group in Swindon back up and running as well, which is good We're trying to get together the week after I turn 37 weeks.

Is it time for supplies already? Time is moving so QUICKLY and yet so slowly all at the same time. I don't even have a list of supplies. I should ask MW about that, huh?

I haven't done anything to prepare for the hb or the baby really. We are donating/trashing a TON of stuff to make room for baby though. I guess that counts.

Like another poster, I am imagining my birth in front of the fire.

Well, I feel like I have more time than many of you because I'm not due until the end of Feb., but I'm sure that with the holidays and a vacation immediately after, the time is going to fly by! We still have nothing for this baby except some hand-me-down girl clothes, and even those are 3-6 months. Our close friends have offered to build us a cosleeper as our baby gift, which is so nice!

We watched some home movies the other night, and some of dd's birth was on there. I actually felt really good about it- apparently I'm a quiet laborer. I couldn't remember with all those endorphins trippin' me out! I'm also really remembering how it feels to hold a warm, slippery newborn, and distinctly remembering the feel of the umbilical cord on my thigh. I can't wait to find out what strong impressions will remain after this birth- the things you know you'll never forget.
