I tried searching for "paper" on this forum but came up with just about every thread. So I'll just start a new one. Does anyone make homemade cards? I have no idea where to begin. Not even necessarily stamping, although that looks really fun, but just the layers of beautiful papers on card stock. Anyone make cards? Where do you begin? What basic supplies do you need?

Thanks!

I do!!! I actually teach classes on this locally!! You can do just about anything you want- you could do paper, stamps, stickers, pictures, etc.

Basic Supplies needed:
*paper
*a paper cutter (to cut straight )
*any embellishments you want
*an adhesive....(I like Tombow and Hermafix- both can be found at a local craft store)

I just cut the shape I want my card and go wild!!!

Sorry.....if you have any specific questions let me know, but it's just sooo hard to explain exactly how to do it when you could just do just about anything you want!

I have been making cards for about 3 years and I have quite an addiction going. I rubber stamp mainly. I love it. I agree with CortLong's basic supplies. You really just have to let your imagination run. However rubberstamps help because they give you inspiration. Almost everything I have comes from Stampin' Up. You could get on their site an find a demonstrator in your area. Most of them do workshops which would be great for someone just starting out. Most of them also do clubs where you commit to spending $15 a month for 10 months and you get hostess benefits for 1 month. That is a great way to build a nice collection of stamps, paper, stamp supplies, ect.

If you don't want to get into stamping and you just want to use paper, stickers, and other embelishments, You could just buy their paper. It is very high quality and it is not as expensive as some that you get at scrapbook stores. I don't buy the premade cards. I buy 8.5"x11" paper and cut it in half and fold it. It fits perfectly into the small size envelopes. If you have any question you can email me [email protected].

I tend to make two styles

1) with home made paper (not made by me, though! LOL) I cut the outer card and with a nice paper for writing I cut a slightly smaller card to glue inside of the outer

I tuck a ribbon between the two pieces with glue so the card can be tied shut.

I then make an envelop with glue by tracing an open envelope for a pattern

Then I often will glue an image from a used card or from a magazine, or a picture of someone in my family etc on the front!

2) the other style that I like making is to use blank white cards and I put 1 flower fairy sticker on the front then I decorate it with dots and swirlies and I write one word on the front of the card. (such as love, or Joy etc)

then I cut the edge of the card with a decorative scissors.

The cards I make are pretty simple, but they are still fun!
I've seen some beautifully elaborate cards, but I lack TIME and patience!
:LOL
