Hey everyone. I've been using my own laundry soap for quite some time now but I think it's causing repellancy issues in my towels and such. Anyone else have this trouble?

I'm not quite sure what the problem is....it's the standard bar of soap, borax, washing soda recipe.

I've heard good and bad things about adding vinegar to help with this. Any opinions?

I add a Downey ball half full of plain white vinegar to my laundry once and awhile. Probably every other week, all the laundry gets vinegar added. I have no issues. (well laundry issues! haha!)

This also works on the cloth diapers very well. :)

Depends on your water. I have soft water so I don't have to add anything to get a good rinse. Perhaps you could try some Calgon if you have hard water? Are you using too much per load? Try stripping them like diapers - run a load w/o detergent and see if you get residual suds.

Define "standard bar of soap". Not all soap is good for laundry.

I know we have hard water. I'm trying to add some vinegar lately and see how that does.
I actually make my own laundry bar...I put some research into it and know that it works well. I used to use Fels Naptha.
I'm also reducing how much I use. I think maybe I tend to overuse soap sometimes....it's always been a tough habit. I'll just treat them like diapers and use less.
I think if nothing else works I'll add some Calgon.
Thanks! I'll send updates when I get it worked out!
