We use a few homeopathic meds, but I understand them very little. Just know they can work.
I'd love help with two things: one -- a good laywoman's book on homeopathy that I can use as a reference. And two: I'd like to complile a homeopathic first aid kit, with some basics. But I don't know where to start. Any pointers?

I became really interested in homeopathy as cure/remedy for vpd's. But ever since they so greatly helped my son's reflux, I want to learn more.

Thanks!

: I'd like to know too. I do take the bible seriously, in that, it says explicitly that all we need is here of this earth already for us. I try to find alternatives to allopathy whenever possible, and much in an almost Newtonish way, if you will, whatever "they" come up with, there is an equal and opposite, NATURAL way to deal. For our family, I look at our "ailments" and think about what might work to cure them, holistically, b/c I do think a holistic approach is a smart one. Do you have specific things in mind? I'm better at coming up w/ideas when pointed in a specific direction.

I would suggest any book by Dana Ullman.
The one book I really use a lot is called Family Homeopathy by Paul Callinan.
As for a beginning kit I can make a few recommendations.

Chamomilla for fussy baby
Nux Vomica for food poisoning like symptoms
Arnica for bumps and bruises or muscle strains
Coffea Cruda for sleeplessness
Pulsatilla for red hot fevers
Bryonia for dry bone aching fevers
Hepar Sulph for yellow snotty colds
Gelsemium for flu symptoms
Aconitum for the first sign of illness (in the first 24 hours)
Ledum for spider or insect bites
Apis for bee stings

I hope this helps.

IMO one of the best books to have in the home is The Complete Homeopathy Handbook by Miranda Castro. You can find it on Amazon.

As far as a first aid kit is concerned, there are many pre-made kits out there. One good one is the Homeopathy Family Kit by Boiron. It contains 32 remedies in 30C potency. 30C potency is a great potency for home use. Good for your typical emergencies and illnesses. Higher potencies are usually needed for treating more cronic illnesses that have been around for a while. Here is a web site that sells it. You may want to shop around for it if you are interested. I have never purchased from this web site... I do not know their reputation.

I recently bought the Hyland's homeopathic remedy chest. It is a little pricy but it has 30 different remedies, some of which I use all the time, some not as much, but I know thay will each have a time where they will be used. Plus it has a great little book inside that list what each bottle is for, i.e when you look up "Allium cepa" it will tell you all the different situations which you can use it for and then in the back of the book it lists symptoms (11 pgs. worth ) and out beside them what remedy should/could be used. I have found it very worth the money and and the book is a very helpful quick reference.

i second Miranda's book and Dana's book. They both are very well respected homeopaths. I also recommend what everyone else said about buying premade kits. Just make sure you're not getting anything higher than the 30C potency as higher potencies are really for practitioners.

Bygones75, what homeopathics did you use to treat your ds's reflux? My ds, born at 30 weeks, now about 5 days old, adjusted age, is showing signs of reflux (first ds had it so I know the signs all too well). I'm desperately looking for something that will deal with the problem not just the symptoms.
