homeschooling someone else's child

i am right now researching school options for my 33 month old dd. i hopefully will move to another city in teh next couple of years for the school system there and the community. i am also trying to figure out what would work best for my child - some kind of school or homeschool.

the main thing about the city is that it is a homeschoolers wonderland. now i am a single mom so i am not sure if i will have the option of homeschooling my dd with the job situation.

but i was wondering would another mom be willing to homeschool my dd. is that even an option. or is that a crazy idea? i know i will have to figure out a lot - the trust, how they get along, what they do. but does anyone do this? is it reasonable thing to ask. or is it a ridiculous idea?

thanks for any advice.

If I were to homeschool your child, I would charge a fortune! I would demand at least double of the salary of the highest paid private school teacher I could find, considering the class-size ratio. Not to mention the extra fees for books, materials, labs and field trips. School lunches extra, not subsidized by the government.

I think you might be better off with another option.
if i had kids and was homeschooling and lived in the right place and all of that i would be willing to homeschool someones elses kids, and i doubt i would charge very much, but i would make sure that the parent or parents of the kid/s i homeschooled felt the same about it as me and wanter there kid to be tuaght the way i was teaching my own kids, when i have kids me and my partner plan to homeschool, and i have often thought that if i only have one kid then it would be nice if i could find other kids to homeschool also, so i think you may be able to find somone living in your area willing to do this
If I were to take that approach, I would possibly just hire a private tutor instead, or send my child to private school. To me, homeschooling would loose most of it's benefits if my husband and I were not the teachers.
I tried that and it didn't go very well, she told me she was doing the stuff I provided for her to teach my dd and she didn't. dd is way behind now and i'm not happy! So now i'm doing it myself and yes as a single mom you can do it, there's a yahoogroup for single HS moms

Something that no one else mentioned but is a good thing to check into are the state laws regarding homeschooling. I don't know what the laws are in your state, but in my state, someone else who is teaching my child (not including co-op) has to have teaching credentials and I believe that they have to be current or something like that. Not sure of the exact law on it, but I know that some states you have to have a licensed professional of some sort to teach your child.

single is not my problem. income is. i live below poverty level and i WOH. what would work for me is to work at nigth or work from home at nigth and hs during the day.

i am looking at various options open to me to make hs happen. i am trying my darnest but am not sure if i will be able to.

ok, you need to break out of the tradational thinking that school must be done M-F during the day. You can do it on weekends, you can do it after breakfast, you can do it when ever!

As for sucky work hours and living below the poverty line, have you considered going to college? I'm serious! Between grants and loans you can live decent, get an education and end up in the better spot in the long run.

i am kinda looking into the school situation right now to see what will work for me. honestly i love going to school much better than working. but i also kinda feel age is catching up with me as i am 40. i already have an english degree from out of country and i wonder do i really want to spend my life going back to getting a math degree and teaching math at say 50.

what i am trying to figure out is what is practical and what is not. yes i want to go to school and yes i want to homeschool. i guess i need to figure out how to make that happen. not being born and brought up in this country i dont really have an idea of a lot of things. plus being just in the process of filing for bankruptcy i feel perhaps a lot of avenues are closed for me.

yes u r right. i need to get out of traditional thinking. i will definitely check out ur yahoo links this evening. my life changed upside down a year ago and i am trying to figure out how to make things happen. thank u for ur guidance. that is what i need right now.
