Hi everyone,

Do you know if my 14 month old can eat honey if it's in something that is baked?

Thanks!!

Yes, but a 14 month old could eat raw honey, too!

Ohhhhh really?

I was thinking he couldn't eat honey until he is two years old. Thank you!

I think the recommendation used to be to wait until 2 years old but now it's 1 year old. I'd imagine it's a different story if you have a child with a suppressed immune system, etc. but for healthy children, a year old is supposedly fine.

FWIW, baking with honey would resolve the issue anyway. You want to avoid raw honey in infants because of spores which are easily combated in older children and adults can make a little baby very ill.
i think that baking actually doesn't resolve the botulism issue.

here's the top result from a quick google search but i've seen it elsewhere too.

that being said my dd occasionally had raw honey in smoothies and things before being a year, it was not intentional but it did happen and she's fine.

Interesting. I think they are being a bit paranoid but better to be safe than sorry. I do have to say though that honey is in a lot of things we never even think about (some commerical breads for example) and there doesn't seem to be a bunch of botuslism cases or any warnings not to feed it to a young child.

yeah, i agree, i guess that was why i didn't stress when my dd had some of the really raw honey (gasp! unheated and unpasteurized!) or the peanut butter or strawberries.

i think that so long as you aren't feeding them spoonfuls of the stuff you're probably okay.
