my son is 11 months old. he's been on solids since 6 months. that process has been a breeze - he loves all foods we've tried, and has had no adverse reactions. HOWEVER -- what used to be easy-to-deal-with firm poops have gone gradually away, replaced with semi-solid poop explosions (we call them explosi-poops). these are basically the same consistency as the food that's going in - mushy with chunks (sorry to be so graphic , but i want an answer). these occur about 2x a day, and usually necessitate a change of clothes.

is this normal? if so, when can we expect things to "firm up" again?

he has no GI discomfort, and he is thriving.

his diet is basically mushy fruits and veggies, cereals, lots of yogurt and cottage cheese, water, and my milk.

Also curious about when things may "firm up!"

Re: the explosions and change of clothes, what dipes are you using? We've had some major poops, but never needed to change clothes. Maybe our poops just aren't as big as yours.

cloth prefolds at home, disposables when we go run errands. the clothies hold things in better, but still, the leakage around his thighs makes his pant dirty. whatever's going on here, we can't wait for this to be over with!

Some proteins produce solid poops like meats or cheese if you offer them.

If you have frequent blowouts I think you need to reconsider your diaper covers. That kind of poop is pretty common but blowouts should be rare. We use cloth too (sized fuzi bunz) and I think we've had one blow out ever. We had many many more with disposables with DS.

our little guy has blowouts most days - the poop volume is so large is creeps up his back, and out the top of the diaper as well as creeping out the sides onto his thighs.... daycare called one day and asked if he was alleric to any soaps because it was so bad it reached his neck/hairline and they needed to give him a bath, not just try to clean with wipes.

we're not on any solids (he refuses to eat them) and only babyfood and formula. he is also happy, no GI pain that i can tell and growing just like he should.

so, long story short, i'm no help, just wanted to let you know you are not alone.

We've been going through a stage here where ds has gotten more distracted about eating some days. It seems as if when he is skipping "meals" and is possibly getting an extra nursie, it gets a bit more runny and less firm.

What always seems to firm his up though, is bananas and sweet potatoes. I have to be careful not to give him too many of these or his poop gets too firm.
