Hey...

Someone that I love very, very much and whom I am very close with (we have been in each other's daily life since he was 15 and I was 16) has HORRIBLE skin... and some other serious reoccurring issues. We are going to the hospital today, again ... for infection. He has a really bad infection on his chest, and this time he is having internal pain and trouble breathing.

I made a list of things, and we are going to talk with the doctor. They always take care of the infection (cutting it open, draining, and then giving antibiotics) but no one considers the fact that this has been going on since he was a baby (not onset at puberty) an no one looks at a possibly bigger picture.

I am so hopeful that we will get a clue... maybe someone here has experienced things like this, or knows someone that has... OR, we can get some suggestions on how to take care of the skin, at least.

1.Soreness in the chest

2.Trouble breathing/pain when inhaling – noticed when chest is infected, especially bad this time

3.Been feeling sick/feverish

Have been overweight always, through childhood -
oActive (skateboarding, long walks, not lazy at all) – not your stereotypical “fat man” lifestyle
oDiet is pretty good - vegetarian, pretty low carb
oDo not eat large portions
oWeight fluxes – rapid gain at times

Always had skin issues -
oVery large, noticeably open pours
oAlways have pimples, blackheads, boils – often infected, sore, puss
oArms, back of the neck, back, face – including inside of hair, on ears
oBreak out easily with cleansers or other things topically

•The chest infection has been medically cared for several times, and home cared for several more
•Cuts, punctures, and other injuries get infected easily
•Mouth/gum infections and issues even with good hygiene
•Rarely wake feeling rested, often feel exhausted
•Anger management issues all of life – can come out of nowhere, highly emotionally charged

Connected ??? –
•High libido/hormones
•ADHD “attributes” – leg shaking, hyper focus and also a hard time focusing – depending… personality changes if hungry\too long without food
•Reoccurring anxiety and depression

Worth mentioning -
•Previous history of alcoholic drinking, drug use, and smoking – symptoms started before these activities, and it has been a long time since these activities, and other symptoms still consistent. Not a big consumer of caffeine.
oDid meth for about a year (several years ago) – addicted – symptoms were before (including mouth issues and weight gain/flux), during, and after
oSkin issues were worse when drinking, but have been there before and since
oFacial skin issues got SLIGHTLY better when quit smoking cigarettes

Has he been tested for Cushings? It's when the adrenal glands pump out an excess of steroids...which could explain weight gain, bad skin and low immunity...also the adrenal glands produce precursors to sex hormones, so he could in turn have high levels of testosterone which would be responsible for high libido and anger problems. Adrenal stuff can often fluctuate as well, which may result in temporary improvements followed by a return of symptoms. Here's a link...even if it's not Cushing's specifically, it still sounds steroidal (and thus, adrenal) to me. Just a thought, though...take it or leave it.
http://endocrine.niddk.nih.gov/pubs/...s/cushings.htm

No ideas for you, but man, he sounds just like one of my good friends who passed away last year from a heroin overdose. I hope you can come up with something to help......

I am so, so sorry for your loss

He does not do any type of drugs, or drink... he has a history, but it was brief.

The scariest thing? His father died at 33 from heart and organ failure - undetermined cause. It started at the age that he (my friend) is now.
