We had our hospital walk through last night. Beautiful hospital! You have private rooms for birthing and private recovery rooms. They provide a birthing ball if you want to use that, and highly recommend that you move around as much as possible during your birth. They told us that if we want a epidural, that's fine, but to keep in mind that it means you can no longer move around. All their birthing rooms have a bathroom attached that has a seriously neat shower with full body sprays... all for you comfort during birth. After the babies are born, they highly recommend that the baby stays in your room with you, but will take the baby to the nursery if you need a little bit of undisturbed rest. I couldn't ask for more in a hospital!

Now for my little story... as we're going about the tour, I'm slowing getting hotter and hotter, to the point that I'm starting to sweat and get uncomfortable. As we were standing in the recovery room, I was about 10 seconds from passing out when I said to my husband "I have to get out of here... now!" I was so overheated.. urgh. Our guide turned to me, saw my face and asked "Are you okay?!" No was all I said... she quickly sat me down, had me put my head between my knees and ran off to get me a cold rag for the back of my neck. She had the smelling salts out for me too

So yeah... I'm the pregnant lady that almost fainted on her hospital tour! LOL The tour guide said I was the third lady this month to always go down from over heating. I couldn't wait to get outside into the cold air and snow!

That's awesome! My hospital is the same way. They don't accept patients who are high risk (they don't have an NICU or a real nursery) and it just made me all warm and fuzzy to see how supportive of natural birth they are. They even have a portable tub that you can request if you want to labor in the water (although I'm not sure they allow waterbirth... I think you have to get out of the tub during the pushing phase).

I feel extra secure with my hospital knowing that it's a Level 3 and has one of the best NICUs in the area. I hope I have no reason to need that level of security, but it's nice knowing it's there.

Added bonus... it only takes 5 minutes to get to the hospital from my home.

We have a great hospital too that keeps you in your own room start to finish and promotes all kinds of natural birthing options. They have the private bathroom/shower and birth tubs (though we arent allowed to stay in after 8cm
). The beds are equipped with squatting bars and they have balls too. We still have to officially tour but are waiting to draw up the final birth plan with the doula first.

We dont have an NICU, so would have to go another 80 miles if something happened, but I'm not worried.

BlueWolf- I have been getting overheated when indoors (coming from cold outside) too! Its miserable because it just comes on and you feel like you are going down any second.

It sounds like you have a great hospital.

I love that our hospital has the same feel. They also have jacuzzi tubs in the room for you to labor in, but they do not allow waterbirth.

Sounds like a great hospital. I gave birth to both my DDs at a pretty supportive hospital with CNMs and it was really great. I felt very supported and the staff was pretty accepting, even about both DH & I co-sleeping with the babe while in the hospital. I think some hospitals are getting better about supporting women in labor and focusing on bonding after the babe is born.
