Why is hot springing bad for you while your pregnant?. I could see if the water was too hot, but if you sat in a cooler pool, would it be okay? I'm 12 weeks preggers and I went hot springing yesterday. Might I add it felt wonderful, but now people are telling me I shouldn't of done that, it could harm the baby. But, there not giving me specifics and I'm a little concerned now. The waters temp was the same as I would use to take a bath.
Have any knowledge on this topic? I would love to hear it, please!
I would think that it can't be any worse for you then what comes out of your tap water, with all the chemicals and such

IF your core body temperature gets raised significantly (like if you have a fever), it can be bad for the baby. But the idea that getting in a hot tub is dangerous is a myth -- there have been actual studies on it, and women had to stay in really hot water for far longer than they wanted to (hours) in order to even raise their core temp a little bit, much less enough to be dangerous.

Hot tubs and hot springs are fine, as long as you hydrate and pay attention to how you feel -- you know, use the same common sense everyone should!

WHEW! Okay, I feel much better about the situation. I wasn't light headed or anything, I felt wonderful. As soon as I got out I drank gatorade
Mommy instincts I guess!
Thank you for the reassurance, I was starting to get really worried there! That's very interesting to hear on the study they did for hot tubs. You learn something new every day!

The only concern I could imagine is naturally occuring toxins in the water. The hot springs dh and I liked best when we lived in New Mexico had fairly high levels of arsenic. I have no idea if you absorb much or any elevated risks for a baby, but this is all I could imagine being dangerous. Many springs have lithium, arsenic, or other such things in them.

People were likely warning you because of his and as the PP said, that is a myth.
