I washed my dipes last night with a Warm/Warm presoak and a Warm/Warm wash (both w/ extra rinses) and they came out stinky!!! This is my same wash routine except for the temp setting. Normally I use a Hot/cold prewash and a Cold/cold wash, and my dipes smell wonderful! What gives? I thought that the hotter water would kill germs better and am confused as to why it's actually less effective.

Tell me what you think!

I would recommend using the HOT water again. We do a cold wash and then a hot wash. Our water gets very hot and my dipes get very clean. So I would suggest that.

Oh, one more thought...did you switch detergents? I recently tried Arm and Hammer for the first time and it didn't get my dipes as clean. I prefer Tide or Gain.

Hmmmm..... do you have a lot of hemp? Maybe the hot is needed to get all the layers of hemp clean I know there was a thread a while ago that said you could theoretically wash on cold if you had too, but I would imagine that the temp of the hot water kills all the bacteria, blechies, etc. Try again on hot is my suggestion

I don't know what kind of water you have, but my dipes will only come out odorless if I wash on Cold. I do an extra wash on hot to get rid of the germs, etc. But they smell if I wash them on hot. The kind of detergent is not an issue for me.

this reminds me of a question asked by my 7th grade math/science teacher

If a man's average temperature across his body is 98.6, is he doing well?

the answer is MAYBE....

His head could be on fire, and his feet could be frozen - the average would still be fine and he wouldn't be happy!

You need HOT AND COLD
not warm and warm

: I always use cold in my wash, the hot-water valve for my washer is broken for now, so I just run my dipes thru 2 times; dtergent in the first and nothing the 2nd time round...I never get stinky dipes, but then again I also practically pre-wash EVERY poopy dipe, eventhough it's still breastmilk poos!
