Hi All,
Here is the info-- it should be great and will benefit CIMS, BIRTH and HOME (see below). Tell a friend and this labor day maybe a few more people will become more educated about birth!
Love, Vanessa

Faring Seven Souls, Caesareans, and Birth Canals
On September 1, Houston will boldly go where no play has gone before: between the legs of seven laboring women. Part of a worldwide production, BIRTH (Bringing Information & Resources to Houston) will host a special benefit performance of the critically acclaimed theatrical hit, Birth.
Created by mother and playwright Karen Brody, Birth is "as poignant and powerful as it is simple and direct," according to press notes. The story of seven women, Birth is delivered in a theatrical experience that melds the unbridled hilarity, the unexpected poignancy, and the naked truth of childbirth in America.
The culmination of 118 true stories, the cast represents the birthing spectrum from liberal, "My body rocks!"-bleating Amanda (Miranda Check) to strong-willed, no-nonsense Vanessa (Candice Bruder) to career-driven Beth (Erin Maxey), and even angry, somewhat deflated Lisa (Kimberley Traylor).
But at the cornerstone of each story lies personal choice. And Janet's (Annie Lee) epidural, Jillian's (Debbie Hull) home birth, and Sandy's (Kelly Coleman) cesarean section are all on display without judgment.
"Birth brings to light the importance of a woman's right to birth in awareness, to know her options and make informed decisions based on knowledge and what's right for her. Having an empowered birth doesn't necessarily mean having a natural birth; it means having a
birth you can 'own'," says BOLD organizer, BIRTH founder and local midwife Pat Jones.
Houston has embraced the play as part of a global Birth On Labor Day movement to make maternity care more mother-friendly. Between September 1-4, Birth will been performed in more than 20 cities around the world, including Austin, Bermuda, Malta, Maui, New York, New Delhi, and Washington, DC.
"Maternity care today simply isn't mother-friendly. In many communities pregnant mothers' voices are silenced," says playwright Karen Brody. "BOLD is a global movement to raise awareness and encourage mothers and fathers worldwide to learn the truth about childbirth and make informed birth choices. BOLD challenges women to speak out and for professionals in the maternity care field to truly listen."
Brody adds, "Can a play help improve maternity care around the world? I think so."
The performance, directed by Houston's Lynne McCabe, will be followed by a talkback session called "Mother Friendly Maternity Care: What is it and how do we get it?" featuring midwives, childbirth educators, lactation consultants, doulas, and parents.
Experience BOLD at the following performances:
September 1 -- Hogg Middle School (1100 Merrill in the Heights), 6:00p.m.
September 2 -- Arts Alliance Center Clear Lake, 11:00a.m
September 3 -- Motherhood Center, 2:00p.m.
Proceeds from a suggested donation of $10 will benefit the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS), an international coalition that promotes a wellness model of maternity to improve birth outcomes; Bringing Information and Resources to Houston (BIRTH), a local non-profit organization that hosts an annual BIRTH Fair, outreach programs, and educational materials; and - Houston Organization Midwifery Education (HOME), which provides continuing education and peer review to its members.
Theatergoers will be able to purchase merchandise for the cause at each performance.
