I am new to Georgia and was asking for well woman recommendations my last LLL meeting. A Bradley mom there recommended Anne Vierela (CNM). I haven't met her myself yet, but she delivers at Northside Forsyth right off Hwy 20 in Cumming not far from Canton. I couldn't go much into it at the LLL meeting (this may have been the one I missed due to vacation) but NorthPointe is a mixed bag...<br><br>
On the one hand you have the CNM's. Margaret is supposedly great...and I hear great things about the new CNM they have.<br><br>
On the other hand ( and someone may correct me if wrong) but I believe their OB c-rate is over 30%. Nearly 50% last I heard...<br><br>
I saw them (the OB's) when I miscarried 3 years ago. I did not have an OB close-by and took the referral from the ER at North Fulton. They handled the whole thing well-very respectfully. We had a D&C with that miscarriage.<br><br>
I am considering making an appt for my well-woman care with Margaret soon...it's time for that but it's hard for me with DH's schedule and the kiddos. I don't really want to take 3 boys with me for a pap, yk? LOL.<br><br>

I'm with Margaret right now and I <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/love.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="love"> her! Ann is great also, my last appt. was with her, and she's super! I also have a friend who is with them now for her 2nd preg. The both of them are so laid back, and really hands off, and basically anything goes. It's about you, and what you want, and that's the way they've approached everything with me. Im 26 weeks preg. right now. How far along are you? If you have any specific questions feel free to pm me. I really can't say enough nice things about both of them.

Thanks for the feedback, Tracey! It's always nice to hear about people's personal experiences. I am going to Anne for my well woman visit in about 2 weeks. Not sure how much time she'll have to chat about pre-natal and birth stuff since it's not a prenatal visit, but I'll see how much I can pick her brain. I'm about 75/25 right now in favor of homebirth. My first hospital birth experience was one of bait and switch, so I'm less than trusting! See you on Tues!<br><br>

If you ever want to talk about it, LMK. I'm a bit biased towards homebirth...and I'd be really nervous if something happened to my MW in that practice and I ended up with one of the doctors. Elaine is a good example of that...<br><br>
I can't talk much about it at LLL, maybe afterwards depending on who is there. You guys can talk about it all you want before & after but my hands are a bit tied in that environment...however if you want to meet up some where else <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> I'd be more than happy to go on and on about it! LOL.<br><br>
In April I spoke at the GA LLL conference about "Having a Baby Your Way" I'd be happy to share the session outline & bibliography with you and go over any of it...and to help you if you find you want to talk with a HB midwife <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> They aren't always the easiest to find. I usually have business cards for at least one MW available on the Mom's Table in our LLL meetings.<br><br>

I was reading this thread, and just had to vote for Margaret myself!!! I have had two natural births with her and they have both been completely hands off and wonderful. I have a hard time birthing...my children just don't want to come out! even when I have merconium inside...and Margaret never pushed a C section, even admist my 32 hour labor. She stayed for the whole thing, sleeping in the other room when she needed to, but never once implying any "danger" or "rush". She would just walk in the room, give her famous non-committal kind of nod (Margaret patients will know what I mean) and then just leave. Her deep well of strength and trust in the birthing process is wonderful, and she isn't cutesy or gets in the way.<br>
My second birth was in the tub and she is the one responsible for even getting the birthing tub to North Fulton. She is awesome and North Fulton is amazing. They don't even breath the word or thought epidural or C section unless it is 10000% neccesary. I say...if they let a woman labor for 32 hours with barely any dilation for about 28 of those 32 hours...I would say they are definitely pro natural!!!

Anne delivered my daughter in March via a natrual water birth at N Fulton Reginal Hospital and I LOVED having her there. I wasn't sure if it would be Margaret or Anne but would have been happy either way. Anne is much more touchy-feely and tender, i think than Margaret, although both are very good. Margaret is a veteren in the midwife biz-has delivered a ton and is a real wealth of knowledge. You can't go wrong either way.

I also used Margaret and Anne. Though I liked Margaret, I felt an instant connection with Anne, and was very happy that she was on call when my water broke. I also had a waterbirth, and it was great!

Duuuude... if so Congratulations! Couldn't you have waited until the the next LLL meeting to do a pg test in the nursery bathroom???<br>

As far as NorthPointe OB/GYN, if you get in with the midwives you are in their own little practice-within-a-practice... and now that there are 3 midwives in that Practice-within-a-practice, you will probably never even see an OB. And you won't have the disasterous luck that greeted me last year when margaret got pneumonia and had no other backup... Margaret and Anne are super and now a new midwife has joined with them who is of the same mindset... so now there are 3 crunchy midwives in that practice. I don't think the new one (I think her name is Diane) is delivering babies currently but in a pinch would do so- she used to be Margaret's partner way back when when they were at a birth center in Douglas.<br>
I think this practice will be your best choice for what you are looking for near you.<br><br>

I had my 9 week appt with Anne yesterday. i liked her a lot, and she seems really great. Well, this Am I got a call from Anne.... seems Dr. Lambert wants to see me on Friday. At 9 weeks, I already have GD (controlled, I've already "put" myself on insulin) and i am over age 35 (37).<br><br>
Anne seems to think that I can still be a midwife patient, but I fI have to switch to the OB "side", I may start looking for a new practice.<br><br>
