i hear you about weather....

i was almost 80 degrees here in nyc yesterday and i was dying. i was outside for about five seconds before i had total "swamp ass" (what we used to call it in college down south) and this was in april!

i haven't had the funk yet, but i am nervous about the summer. i think 2x/day showers might be necessary!

thankfully i just met a woman up the block from me who's due in early oct, so i have a new friends with whom to be miserable with all summer long.

I find my odor changes too when I'm pregnant - its not a 'bad' odor per say, but not my normal and therefore I'm more aware of it....
I always think of it as "hamster cage".
: It always happens when I'm pregnant. The only way to deal is to change (cotton) undies 2-3, sometimes 4 times per day. I've had myself checked multiple times for bv or yeast. It's neither- just a change in body chemistry.

i'm still laughing out loud....DH came in and asked me what was up. i told him and he is laughing too.
LMBO Hamster cage!!!! Swamp ASS!! LMAO Oh gosh, I'll have to tell DH that next time I run to change my underwear! LOL

DH: what's wrong??
Me: Oh nothing, just a case of Swamp Ass in a Hamster Cage! LOL

Good stuff ladies!!!

No odor issues here, but I have noticed lots more discharge esp lately, so I definitely change undies a lot and stick to only cotton. The summer should be fun

Gross. Yeah, I'm experiencing the swamp n cage thing. Did with ds, too. It's horrible. I feel really embarassed when I'm sitting near other people, but from what DH tells me it must not be apparent to the general public thank GOD. Dh wanted to get out to the store yesterday and said "you don't have to shower - let's just go!". To which I replied, "you don't understand, I need to shower NOW". And honestly? It's not doing much to improve my sex life! I can't imagine ANYONE wanting to get close to that thing!

octobermoon - you're totally my favorite. All your posts are about the pregnancy "nasties". I love it!!! Makes me feel quite comfortable ;-)

Increased discharge, therefore "funk" smell, is normal in pregnancy. Your body is flushing out your vag more often to prevent infection from getting up into the uterus, where it's protecting your little angel. It's all biological, beautiful, design-perfect...BUT GROSS!!!

Any of you hoping to wear those flowing summer skirts or dresses to stay cool this summer may want to rethink that...I find myself too "wet", plus the added pregnancy weight makes my thighs rub together, a combination I don't find pleasant!!! Shudder...wetness, thigh rubbing...GROSS!
:

Boy shorts-type underwear help to absorb better than flimsy panties, and even wearing a panty liner to help with wetness/odor will help. Oh, and a little baby powder between the thighs is a good trick too!

summer dresses/skirts:

i started wearing a pair of cotton bike shorts/short leggings under my shirts last summer when i was always crouching/squatting with my crawler/walker, so that folks wouldn't get a cheap thrill and so that my thighs wouldn't rub. i think that might have to work again!

i can't imagine wearing pants in this summer and i don't own any maternity shorts....i told myself i'm not buying ANY maternity stuff this time (since it's my last), but i might have to get a couple pairs of shorts...

i am dreading august! (but also excited, b/c we'll be close to the end!)
OK, so this might be the right thread to ask this TMI type of question, so that's your warning... TMI on it's way.

I have been wearing liners because I constantly feel wet. Well, I noticed that even when I change them like a half hour after I put it on, there is a strong ammonia smell. I am trying to figure out if this could mean a urinary tract infection or something. Right when I wipe, there is no strong smell. I even collected a cup of urine and checked and no smell... thought maybe it was the liner and tried with toilet paper... still smells.

I am trying not to freak because a UTI would mean anti-biotics for me, and I have had c.diff from anti-biotics. It took me 6 months to start to get back to a regular diet with the c.diff. and a year to recover completely. I go to the doc tomorrow, and I will request a urine culture, but is this common? Don't remember the pee smell with my daughter.
great. re-think the skirts and dresses? but, you may have a point there...guess i better stock up on the cotton undies. forget about panty liners in the summer! i get swamp ass so bad they don't stick for very long...afraid i may lose the thing somewhere! gosh that would be awful..... oh and don't get me started on the thighs rubbing together.... ouch.

erm, that would be the hamster cage smell I'm referring to in my previous post.
I've had my urine checked too and it's fine. I think just the discharge and warmth causes the smell. Gross.

I've noticed a change in odor too. It's not BAD, per se, just different. DH noticed too but says he likes it - I think he's just being nice because he knows what the extra hormones do to my emotions.
I use baby powder on the top crease of my thighs and I wear an unscented pantiliner (which I change 6-8 times per day just so I don't smell!) and that seems to help a lot.

So true! I seriously considered a maxi dress but decided against it for exactly that reason. It's unfortunate because skirts and dresses are so much more cool and comfortable than pants and shorts in the summer here.

OH! Thanks for clearing that up. I was hoping we were talking about the same thing but didn't want to miss a UTI. Guess I'll post-pone worrying until tomorrow when I should have a urine culture. I agree. It is gross.
The joys of pregnancy!

Okay, here is way tmi for you all.

I had a friend that had 6, yes, 6 kids. She said she had to change her underwear twice a day, and also shave the region. Makes sense, odor won't stick if there is nothing for it to stick too. She also thought it was good to take baths every once and awhile too, as it cleans you a little better.

As for the person talking about wetness-that is pee
Sorry mama, but you need to do your kegels! I would pee just a tiny bit every time I sneezed or laughed towards that end of my last pregnancy. Kegels.

omg- this THREAD! IT's hysterical!!!!

I'm more 'swampy' down there, for sure - but that's the extent of it. It's only really bad on days that it's nice AND I'm doing physical work, so far.

lovely. just so exciting, isn't it?
