I have a sinus infection and a chest infection....feeling pretty poo at the moment:. About to make myself an appointment with my GP because I am having trouble breathing - I have to take short quick breaths. I am thinking they will be giving me antibiotics for this. I have not had antibiotics in years - mostly because I am allergic to a lot of them! lol... I know they are not the best thing in the world and I would seriously think twice about giving them to my son. Is there an alternative? Or just take the antibiotics? Or am I just being silly? :

IMO antibiotics are there for stuff like this. I don't object to them, just the over use of them. get cultures etc first to make sure its not viral, if its viral, theres nothing you can do.

I'm not sure if antibiotics will help, but I think your doc should give you a chest Xray or at least listen to your lungs to make sure you don't have pneumonia. I usually get an upper respiratory infection once a year that varies in severity and I swear by steam. I bet your doc says this too.

I'm not sure if this is at all possible for you, but it works for me: lock yourself in the bathroom and take a really hot shower and inhale the steam. Or simply hold your head over a steamy pot of water (with some nice herbs thrown in, like mint), put a towel over your head to trap the steam and BREATHE. Sleep with a humidifer running in your bedroom at night.

Good luck. Hope you feel better!
