The midwife called to tell me that my swab came back positive for yeast - which is somewhat of a relief to know, but I realized I've likely had this infection since using Preseed while TTC!

So I'm sitting here after two nights of becoming a little too friendly with garlic, currently with gobs of yogurt in a place where I had never wished it to be placed.

And everything seems to be feeling worse!!! More itchy, more swollen, and I'm >< this close to sending DH to the all night drugstore to get me an over the counter remedy.

The MW suggested I try the natural remedies first, which is of course what I would prefer, but AAK! It iiiiiiiiitttccccchhheeeessss!!!!!!! And I just want it to stop!

To top it off, my hoo-hoo has been so swollen since the preseed that sex has not been enjoyable, and incredibly infrequent. I just thought it was the pregnancy hormones, and now I find out it's the infection!

Would a 7 day run of Canesten or something really be harmful to the baby? I just need this to Stooooopppp!!!

Ow honey , I was where you are last week and sad to say I went and got monistat one day ovuale insert then monistat 3 day ovuale insert, I wanted to go natural but the itching was nothing pretty and so damn uncomfortable (I was beginning to worry about the effects of the infection sitting too long), have you tried the garlic insert method (I havent but I plan on it). I think the reason the natural methods take awhile to work is that it addresses the core of the problem not the symptoms and that's all monistat does, so even if you use it you need to lay on the probiotics heavy and even insert a gralic clove periodically just to help restore your ph.

I had one right before I got the bfp. It was kind of lightening up and then around 6 weeks it got REALLY bad. I tried lots of home remedies and it just was NOT working. I couldn't sleep it was so bad. So, I called my OB and they said it was okay to do an OTC yeast infection med. She said to go for the 3 or 7 day as opposed to the 1 day, though. Less "stuff" at a time. I got a 7 day where you just get a tube and fill up the syringes yourself. I filled them up about halfway and only used like 3 of them, then used some on the outside to help with the itching. The few minutes after it was inserted were the WORST. OMG it hurt so bad. But I was happy to have it gone finally.

Yeah I have struggled with yeast for a while I have chronic yeast infections, I am sure the boat loads of sugar I have ingested plays a role in it

I used canesten. I prefer monistat, but the dr. said canesten. I was over 3 months along, so he said it was ok.

What about gentian violet? Maybe the midwife could apply that? I never tried it, but I've heard it works great.

*snort* I hear ya! THe first trimester, I couldn't stand sugar, but the past few months I've been worrying that I am building a baby who will be made entirely of sugar :p Between my birthday, Halloween, DD's birthday and *testing out* holliday baking, I'm not surprised the yeast rages on.

During my pregnancy with my dd I had a horrible yeast infection that would not go away. I tried every kind of natural treatment for it because I wanted to avoid using the "hard stuff". Finally I broke down and used the 7 day monistat and lo and behold no more yeasties. So...sometimes it's worth it. If the natural stuff works for you that's great...but for those of us who need the hard stuff thank goodness for it!

I wouldn't worry about that. The term yeast infection is really a misnomer because there is no "infection". In fact the good bacteria has been overrun by yeast.

I'm such an IDIOT!!!

My mw suggested that I try the garlic as well as acidophous capsule inserts. which I tried for two days.

It just dawned on me that they weren't acidopholus only capsules, oh no - they were multi-bacterial-restore-your-whole-digestive system's-natural-flora capsules!

That explains why everything feels so much worse - I now have a Battle Royale of good and evil and everything in between going on in my hoo-hoo :.

I just got back from the drugstore with a 3 day monistat, swollen girly bits and feeling like a complete moron. Hopefully the monistat will just make it all go away.

phooey.

Okay, that's good to know! I was wondering about that. It just makes me so mad that I've been sitting with this thinking it was just the pregnancy hormones making me swollen and itchy, but it was the dratted Preseed that started the whole mess (infection, not pregnancy - well it did help the pregnancy, that wasn't the mess part, although....) when I could have just dealt with it 5 months ago and possibly been not avoiding sex this whole time!

In what ways does this effect the baby?

I was wondering about that - I mean, the baby is pretty well sealed away. I imagine overall whatever nonsense they put in Monistat etc. would likely harm the baby more than the yeast itself. Other than, of course, the grouchiness it causes the mother I guess that's why the mw suggested the garlic & acidopholus before Monistat.

I had horrible yeast infections the entire time I was PG with DS. My dr told me to use monistat but only the 7 day. He said they work better than the 3.
