How can I do this differently with dc3?

Hello, ladies. I have 2 dds, they will be 2 and 4 this June. I am expecting a wee one in June. I bf my girls til they were 15 months (dd1) and 12 months (dd2). I thought they self weaned, but was more mainstream and very clueless back in the day. Now here at MDC I see ladies saying that babes can't really self-wean at those ages, that it is a nursing strike. With dds it very well could have been a strike, but I don't really know how it all works. dd1 dropped feedings slowly until she didn't want any, so I stopped offering. dd2 was nursing a blue streak until I got pg. I m/c'd that little one at 10 weeks and dd2, who had been nursing less the whole pg, stopped nursing a week after the m/c. I can only assume the flavor changed. I had milk and offered it for 3 months after that, and she would have none of it, even if she was sick. I was so disappointed

I was wondering what I could do differently with this new life. I really want to nurse longer than with my dds, but since I am not really sure where I went wrong I am not really sure what to fix. Any thoughts? TIA

Well, this is the first time I've made it to 12 months and I don't know exactly what I'm doing. But what I do is just keep offering. I don't let more than 2 hours go by without offering. If she's too busy, she'll only nurse a few minutes, but I offer anyway. If she didn't get a full session, I'll offer again in 20 minutes, just to check again to see if she wants to nurse. Oh, and I offer some water, but not a lot - usually only when having a meal (since I can't nurse when she's in the high chair).

I'm a low supply mama, so other moms might get away with offering every 3-4 hours without detriment to their supplies.

If distraction is an issue - try a nursing necklace (either buy one or make one - I use one my dd made with large beads. It helps somewhat).

I had an original goal to make it to 12 months, now that I'm here, I want to try to make it to 18 months. I don't know what will happen, but so far, we're doing okay.

HTH.
