Since I'm going to be hugely pregnant in the middle of winter, I bought a used coat on ebay that will be big enough to cover all of me. The problem is, this came from a smoking home and I haven't been able to get it to smell like anything other than a cheap hotel room. The washing directions are to hand wash in cold and line dry. Any advice?

Thanks.

Vinegar?

I had a friend in college who said that after parties she would wave a vinegar-soakedrag around and her mom never noticed the smoke smell.

Oxygen bleach, though it does need hot water to disolve.

baking soda in the wash.

The coat would need to soak awhile in either of the above.

I've had some luck washing hand me downs that were stored in my smoker aunt's house. I first washed them in Sport Wash then in Dreft or whatever. HTH.
