So we've been thinking, talking and researching dogs since we bought out house last June. First we'd decided on whatever we found at a shelter that fit our family would be the dog. Then we decided that we wanted to be a little more selective and research breeds thinking that perhaps a puppy would be better with our young kids....while still watching the local shelters *daily* (obsessively )

So, we came to the conclusion that we wanted a cairn terrier. Got on the purebred lists at the shelters and waiting and read and waited and read and got goof info here. Then my assistant got a cavalier and we read, and met him, and read more and met more and decided on a cavalier. Then we had an opportunity to adopt a wonderful little cavalier but decided the medical issues were just too much for us the more we learned about her. Not to mention dh just didn't much care for cavaliers, although I'll give him credit for trying, meeting several, talking with folks, etc. With that, we decided to call off the whole dog thing.

Two weeks ago we were at a soccer match and one of our teammates grandparents had thier cairn with them. He was the third one they'd had over many years and they just raved. Dh fell in love and next thing I know, I was contacting breeders again.

Today, we brought home Lucy a 10w old cairn terrier.

She's the one looking into the camera. Of course I have gazillions of pics on the camera but haven't downloaded them yet. this is one that the breeder emailed me.

Here we go....puppy time!! It's been 10 years since my last dog! eeks!

So, we plan to enroll in a training class as soon as we can. What are some of the better training books out there? Any recommendations. Of course I'll search around here.

She isn't house trained much but has gone outside 4 times since we got home, and none inside (I just cursed that I'm sure ). She seems to love her crate already which is cool!

OK, off to clean up that first poop mess
