So I'm finally deciding to get into the infertility stuff in a serious way. I opened up the phonebook, and there are a whole bunch of choices for infertility clinics. How do I go about picking someone? Darts? Eeeny-meeny-miny-moe? Suggestions?

Thanks!

Ideally you can get a referral from a friend or an acquaintance. Someone they went through & were happy with.

Back home I went to someone who a couple of my friends had seen & were happy with. Here in CR I had an acquaintance who worked at the Canadian embassy ask around.

You could also talk to your gp & ask for suggestions.

this is a link to the cdc's 2005 clinic stats.
http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/ART2005/clinics05.asp
it may help compare/contrast clinics in your state, or surrounding states. i don't know if you are thinking ivf, but most of the stats are based on ivf, rather than iui's, or meds alone.

i chose my clinic for the sole reason that it was the only one in my state! but i had heard all good things about them from my cnm and then online. we went for an initial consultation and i liked their staff and i like the both r.e.'s who worked there. i came with a list of questions based on our specific situation, and i liked how they answered.

i suppose if there are quite a few to choose from, you could set up consults with a few of them, and see which places you feel better at. it really makes a difference if you like the staff- the nurses, specifically, as they are the ones you will end up communicating with more than anyone else. i guess if a clinic had ridiculously awesome stats, i could deal with a crappy nurse, but in general, most clinics are working near the national average for success stats, so to me, the most important thing would be how you like the place.

i hope you find just the right place. it can be overwhelming.

I asked around. I heard good things about one place and not so good things about another. I'm just starting this journey but I'm pleased with my RE thus far.
