Not too sure where to post this, but I figure if you're in this forum you might have recently had a baby I'm 7 months pp and still breastfeeding on demand. I haven't had a period yet, but this whole week I've been feeling very crampy (like I remember menstrual cramps feeling...although it's been like a year and a half since I've had them!). I keep thinking I must be getting my period any minute, but nothing. How did you feel when you were about to get your period again after having a baby? Were PMS symptoms better or worse?

You might try posting in fertility. What you are describing is pretty typical, it could last a few more days or even on and off for months. Just beware if you are not wanting to have another baby for awhile

I was breastfeeding on demand with all my babies and my cycles returned when they were 14 months old. My biggest "symptom" was that I suddenly was fantasizing constantly about another baby, whereas just weeks before I wasn't wanting another, maybe ever! My babe is 9 months and for the last few weeks I have had several days on and off of this low crampy feeling. ??

In my experience all the pmsigns got more intense. Like I never had had cramps until after my second baby. But ovulation has become easier to detect too- it's like it's all more dramatic and obvious.

With dd my period returned at 19m pp. For me, I had one day of cramps which I mistook for a stomach bug and then it was back. I had issues with my period before I got pregnant (only had 2 periods the year before preg) so it had been a long while for me. I was totally shocked by it, but in retrospect it made sense. Then I noticed a slight dip in my supply around AF time which was fixed by eating a batch of homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies

I'm so jealous of all the posters who said their period returned at 7, 19, and 14 months postpartum. I'm EBF on demand AND pumping for another baby and I still got my period back at 8 weeks postpartum. Ugh! After 2 regular cycles, my next one was late by 2 weeks. I thought I was pg again at first, but after a test confirmed "no" I just figured that I'd be blessed with being period free for a bit . I spend the next week or so feeling really edgy and was starting to think maybe I had a touch of PPD...then my period came! That said, I definitely think that PMS is much worse after being pregnant. My periods have definitely been crampier and heavier than before getting pregnant (sorry if TMI).

My period returned at 9 months after dd was born, and a year after ds was born - both were bf on demand, but ds demanded more frequently. The first couple cycles were crampier than usual, and I did have some cramping leading up to them, as you describe. So I'd say you aren't necessarily about to start menstruating tomorrow, but your body is leading up to it.

yeah, i was crampy off and on like that for about a month before mine happened. i am now on my second PP period, and i've actually noticed that i get really crampy, and i get sore nipples, about 10-12 before AF begins--must be ovulation

my O cramps this month were HEINOUS. i thought i had a stomach virus, but i wasn't having any diarrhea or vomiting, so i finally figured out it had to be cycle-related. those O cramps lasted about 1-2 days, along with the sore nipples.

my PMS symptoms (which are all around O time, really) are much worse now than i ever noticed. but i have to say, i haven't O'd all that many times in the past decade because i was on hormonal BC for a loooong time prior to TTC. so maybe it would've always felt this bad!!!

the good part is i can tell when i'm going to O, so i think i might be a good candidate for FAM. i think i'll give it a cycle or two more so i can really figure out my symptoms, and then actually take a chance at sex without protection

My experience was very similar to yours. My period returned at 3 months postpartum (like mama2elisabeth, I was also feeding on request and pumping for a friend's baby so this was very surprising!). The cramps were pretty intense beforehand and I had never had experience with cramping pre-baby. Also, when my period did finally come, it was a lot longer and heavier than it had ever been. A friend with 2 and another on the way reassured me that her experiences with PP periods were similar.
I had mixed emotions about the return of my cycles. On the one hand I was simultaneously excited to be cycling again after so long, but then again, I was really not ready to start thinking about birth control again!
