Hi moms!
Here's my situation: My son is over 5 months, around 18lbs, and nurses every hour or more (excepted at night). I'd like to start giving him solid food, but DH wants to wait untill he has his first tooth out (he's got this theory that untill a baby has a tooth out, they don't have the enzymatic capacity to digest anything else than milk). I want to respect his parenting decisions, but at times I feel like I am going nuts and/or that I am a milking cow.
So, as the title said, how did you know your baby was ready for solid foods, and at what age was that?
Thanks!

Well, it is a combination of factors, IMO:

baby MUST be able to sit unaided
must have lost tongue thrust
should be able to pick up food and put it in his/her mouth
should WANT to put food in mouth.

those are the basics. I think that spoon-feeding is a waste of everyone's time and babies should start with soft solids that they can self feed.

I knew when Jazz started knocking food off of my plate and actually taking food out of my hand and into her mouth. Subtle, huh?
