I used smalls on my 7 lb newborn, and they were a little bit big for a couple weeks. I'm guessing the xs would have been a really nice fit, but not for long! She was out of the smalls by 3 months, at around 10 lbs. I really liked them, though, they were great at stopping the milky poopy leaks!! And easy. Except the stuffing part. Next time, I'm going to teach my 5 yr old how to do that! :LOL

I used smalls right away. Next time I may get a few xs but they will not get alot of use. My smalls only work for 3-4 months.

My baby was born at 34weeks weighing 5lbs 3oz and was 9lbs by 2months old. XS FB worked great on her because she was little and took a few weeks to grow. My mom bought us 4 of them to use for outings and we adored them. They truly do fit down to 4lbs! We tested that!!!! SHe dropped down to 4lbs 6oz and the XS still fit. But by 9 1/2-10lbs she could fit into smalls so we sold the xs. I personally wouldn't bother with xs if you have 8lb babies or more or if money is an issue. If you have smaller(6lb) babies and don't mind sizing up pretty fast, I would go for it. SOmetimes when money isn't an issue, it's worth it to have a few diapers that truly do fit well and dont' overwhelm your little newborn. That newborn period is so difficult in many respects that it might be worth it to buy a few diapers if money isn't an option. And plus, they do resell pretty well. I could have sold my 4 xs's 3 times over within that same day.

They resell pretty well. I bought 10 used ones and a few new ones. my first was 8lb 15oz and they fit her till she was 3m old... I used newborn sized disposables right up into her 2nd month. Actually as of 9 months I could still get an XS ON her! (not that it would have worked with the amt of stuffing I needed )

I think it depends on the baby but I Hate bulk on tiny babies! I like to hold and admire their little bodies without a big ol butt, just my opinion. Though I do think it's funny when my now-1-year-old has a big poofy butt as she waddles around

(FWIW she's a year old and still in the smalls on the largest/next largest leg snap and the tightest waist snap. So maybe a baby is big but that doesn't always mean they'll grow super fast!)

i LOVED the extra smalls on my 8 lb 14 oz'er. smalls were way too big. our xs fuzzi bunz were my favorites for the newborn period. they fit for about a month. totally worth it in my book.

i appreciate this thread b/c i have been wondering the same thing.

http://www.nurturedfamily.com/clothdiapering.aspx

i have been looking at this site. they have great deals on fb. if you buy in bulk you get free shipping and a discount on the diapers. they usually throw in an insert for free with each diaper too.

but they list a preemie size, not xs. is that the same thing?

I really liked the XS on my 8lb 9oz dd. She is now 10lb 10oz and is growing out of them at almost 5 weeks old. The smalls are still a bit big on her, but they make great night time diapers

Thank you for all the replies! My last baby was 8 lbs. at birth and at three weeks the smalls were still big in the legs, so I have picked up a dozen xs this time. I don't mind if I only use them for a month. Thanks for the tips!
