I have a 3 yr old DS and I have a few ideas as to how DH and I will help him feel like an important part in the birth of his new brother, but would appreciate any of your ideas. I thought about having DS pick out a stuffed animal and wrapping it to give to his baby brother, and then DH and I would secretly buy a present and wrap it for baby brother to "give" to his big bro. What did you do?

Hi,

When my daughter was born all of my 3 boys, ages 7, 5, & 2 were present and my husband helped our oldest son cut the umbilical cord--it was so special. Our middle son was in charge of his own disposable camera --(we actually got some pic's out of it) and our 2 year old picked out babies first outfit. I hope these were of some help. : )

We are having our 4yo tell us the sex of the baby. I like the idea of having the youngest pick out the outfit. We also have a 2yo.

We have also included both boys in the prenatal process, read lots of books about babies, and watched some babies being born on videos. I feel this really helped in preparing our oldest for the birth of his brother (he was 2yo at the time).

My ds was 6 1/2 when my dd was born this April. We did alot of reading and watching natural births, because he was going to be present during the waterbirth. We did have my sister there specifically for him during the birth too. He made a leopard for her at "Build A Bear" when I was pregnant and recorded his voice "so that she won't be lonely". He too had a disposible camara and took some pictures and has a "Big Brother" photo album of just him and Amber.

Good Luck~

When my youngest was born I made my oldest a shirt that said Worlds Best Big Sister adn we gave it to her when she came to meet her baby sister at the hospital. Then she wore it when we took the pictures of the two girls for the birth announcement. The birth announcement read "Introducing LAuren's baby sister Madeline Pearl" She thought it was cool.

Another thing that we did was include her in all the doctor/midwife appointments. She was there when I had my sono and asked the nurse every month if she could hear the baby's heartbeep She was so CUTE!
Good Luck and happy birthing!
