I am a college student and so is my dh. This quarter we have opposite schedules, but soon our classes will overlap. We will need childcare part-time. We have never even had a babysitter before, so I have no idea how to find one. My girls are 4 and 8. No daycare I've seen will take my oldest daughter. I want quality, affordable care and I am getting stressed over finding someone before we actually need them. We are low income (only income is grants and student loans) but I am willing to pay as much as I can. I am not looking for someone to homeschool my kids, we do that. We just want someone flexible, reliable, mature, caring and active. Any ideas on how to find someone who will take homeschool children? Thanks!

A homeschooled teen? That's what I did when Rain was 6-10ish for occasional sitting.

Or maybe you could trade with a homeschooling mom? Either watching her kids, or some kind of tutoring?

How many hours are you talking about? If it's a few hours a week that you overlap you could take the kids on campus with you and hire a student to watch them. Or if you live close to a college you can have a student come to your home.

Another option is a local church. They would be able to put you in touch with a reliable woman who can come to your home. Many churches have a child care program, and one of the workers may love some extra income.

I would look into home daycares. They may be more flexible with your situation. I have a home daycare and we have an 8yo homeschooler enrolled FT.

I would look into family daycares in your area as sometimes they are more flexible with their age ranges then centers. I am a DCP and HS so I network with other HS families for that occassional day that they may need someone. As most daycares around here want a commitment as to the hrs/days per week. I would also put up an ad around your school to see if there is someone who might be looking for a part time job. If your hrs are not too long then maybe they can watch them there at the school during class or hang out around campus.

I found my awesome babysitter on Craigslist. There is also a site called care.com - not sure if there are any listed in your area though - I only looked at it once a while back and only briefly. You might want to check those options out.

trade with other hs mom or a hs teen

our only sitters / mother's helpers are 3 girls, HS, ... i looove it they have more flexible hours (their mom is a buddy and will even let them change their school hours to go to doc appt with me and stuff)

that is what i would vote ...

do you belong to a HS group -- look there.

or

if you go to a church, and older grandma tyope there.

I would post a "Wanted" ad here in the Finding Your Tribe forum.

I do part-time childcare like you're describing for several families here in Maryland.
