my ds is driving me crazy! the way he acts while nursing, makes me want to quit! he is very demanding when he wants it. he will shriek and pull up or down my shirt, which i find irritating. i typically only nurse in the morning before work and then before bed. on weekends, it's before naps too, and just when we feel like it. while he's nursing, he pulls on me, pulls my hair, hits me in the face or chest. it's really frustrating. i have pulled him off, and sat him down, told him no - be nice to mommy. he whines for a minute and i put him back on. and he hits me again. then he laughs! lol if he weren't so damn cute...

so what do i do? how do i teach him nice nursing manners?

Hmm, well, I think if you really want to teach him some manners, that it's not okay to hit you, pull your hair, etc, you need to take him off and not put him back to your breast, even when he whines. He needs to learn that you will not give him any nursing while he treats you that way. If you let him whine for a minute, then put him back on, he won't learn anything, even if you tell him "no, not okay." The "no" has to be along with taking him off of your breast and you getting up to go about and doing your own thing- going into another room and do some chores, whatever you need to do. If he's whining and crying, I would not give in just because of that. Once he has calmed down, explain to him that it is not okay to pull on you, or shriek, or hit you. Then nurse him again (if he wants it), but as soon as that type of behavior starts again, go through the whole thing again. You need to be consistent in what you are telling him and follow through with it each and every time.

Good luck!
