I am lucky if I get time to put makeup on so this is a ? that I am wondering about. I have a maya wrap & a hmong carrier. I recently made myself a blue brocade pouch & am planning a couple more. But then I thought how would I cope with deciding which one to use? With the maya & the hmong, it is simple. I need to do a back carry, I use the hmong. Hip carry I use the maya. Beyond that, how do you decide ?

match to your outfit ?

seriously i'm downsizing cuz it seemed silly to me to have so many. I don't like the back carry at all and he's too long (i'm only 5'tall) for the ellaroo style wrap worn on my chest. His legs hit my thighs and its hard to walk.
so i sold the wrap and i'm selling my metai as well. I find i really only am comfortable with my 10mo/21 or so lbs boy in the hip carry so i'm getting a hip rider in a trade and i'll use my good ol' trusty taylormadetreasures muslin ring sling as backup. So now i won't really choose anymore. its just the hip rider. and the ringsling stays in the van for emergencies in case i forget the rider.

I decide based on the weather right now. If it's cool I try to use my KKAFP or my Pea in the Pod because I love them but I know here in TX soon they will be put away until November.

I also decide based on how tired she is. If she is wide awake I use a wrap so I can put her on my back. If she is beat I use either my stretch hotsling or my brocade ABC style carrier.

When I get my EllaRoo I will use it all the time!

Yes, weather is a factor. KKAFP on colder days, for example. Also the type of outing we'll be doing. Farmer's Market= Kozy Carrier, errands around town in and out of the car=OTSBH, nursing=Maya, long walks=Kozy and hopefully soon my girasol, if I ever get the hang of it. I'm waiting on a hotsling also so that will probably do double duty with the OTSBH.

Yes it is getting into winter here & I have been trying to work out how to wear my slings over jumpers. With the hmong, I just wrap a blanket around me & her if it is cold or a thin muslin cloth if it is too sunny. The BIG problem with back carriers is if you are on your own & they take their hat off. What a hassle! We've had a few incidents with trying to eat passing bits of bush too so now I put her in the maya for walks instead of the hmong.

I probably need to get my head around the possibilities of having more than one sling. I have raised one child totally in arms carried without a sling so I can do heaps one handed. Maybe I will have to start colour co-ordinating

Weather, where we are going - those are my 2 biggest factors. Right now I only have 2, a Maya and a solarveil. If it's chillier, I use the Maya. If we're going to be out in the sun, it's always the solarveil. I hope to pick up a white mesh sling for when we are in my parents' pool and not in direct sunlight. I'd also like to get a pouch for when I know we'll be out walknig for a long time (like on our park days) and he'll sleep most of the time. he tends to hit his head on the rings as he moves around in his sleep

Coming from a girl with a good 20 slings I say go on wardrobe... lol. If I'm wearing a pattern I have to wear a solid sling and vs versa. Also on how fancy it is. When I'm out helping Dh get a cow back in I'm not going to be wearing my silk Zolo. LMAO. (BTW did I mention I live on a farm? lol) Also depends on where I'm going. If its one quick hop out of the van like dropping DD at school I wear my pouch. Shopping trips its a hybrid or ring sling. Longer trips is a ABC or wrap. Weather also plays into it along with my mood. If I'm feeling dumpy I go with a fancy sling to bring my spirits up.

DH tells me I need a big chart that explains this all so he knows the weather, plans for the day, and my mood depending on my current sling. :LOL
