I know there are pros and cons to credit scores, so I'm not trying to reopen that debate, but how do you even find out? DH and I both got our credit reports and examined them carefully after an identity theft issue, but it didn't list a FICO score because we got them straight from the credit agencies. Through the credit agencies, you can also get your report only once a year, which is fine. So, how are people finding out what their number is and checking it so frequently?

Sometimes a mortgage broker or a housing charity will pull it for you for free.

Beware or at least cautious of freecreditreport.com We did that and they double charged us for 2 different monitoring fees for three months after we canceled. : We actually had to cancel the debit card to get them to stop charging the fees. : It took sometime, of much yelling, after that to get our money back from them.

You can get 1 credit report from each credit company for free each year. Equifax, Experian, TransUnion. Look here for info: https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

Oh, and you can contact the companies directly to do it. I'm not advocating the website I linked to; I just found that in a search & it seems to give accurate info. What I have done in the past is mail written requests to the credit companies directly. Just write that you are requesting your annual free credit report, send them your name, ss#, addresses, etc. & they will send the reports to you.
