I used to make shirts that I sold locally and on line. I am wondering how to get stores around the country carrying them. Can I just send out samples or brochures to shops? How do I go about locating them?

I usually just write and offer my website for examples of my work. For local shops, I send an email then follow up with a phone call to see if they want to make an appointment for a trunk show. I have had pretty good luck so far. I am a horrible sales person - hate pushing goods - but find it easiest to just go "here - look."

I recommend that you start out locally. Be the big fish in a small pond. Once you've hit your stride in the local market, you can start seeking out larger retailers across the country.

Before you embark on this venture though, I recommend you do some research to find out who your target market is and whether or not the need/want your product. If you find that your product doesn't sell, you can make a new plan before you waste a lot of legwork.
