Maybe this question is way too general, but I'm curious how everyone keeps track of their spending. Every month, I get motivated to write down every penny I spend, but I stop within a day or two! I have a very rough model of a budget, and I never bounce checks and pay off my cc every month, so I must be doing something right!

But I think that if I could keep track of purchases- especially in the grocery and baby department- I would be able to see where I can trim the fat and put more into savings- we'd like to buy a house when DH finishes school, and we might need another car then, too.

Does anyone have any systems they use- either paper or computer?

We use the Quicken software on our computer. We have used it for probably the last 5 yrs. and it seems to very well. Although, dh takes care of all that.

I do it by month on paper, put $ in the savings as if it were a bill, and then only spend that much afterwards. Sometimes I have money to shop if there are no big bills due, car ins. home ins., etc. sometimes I do not!
