So I went to H**lMart and got a package of the microfiber terry towels. Now I would like to know how y'all use them, many different ways! Obviously I can just fold them and use them as is, as a doubler. Do any of you cut them down? Is a single layer of this stuff actually helpful? I was thinking I would like to use the full towel at night, but maybe do single layers as a thinner "boost" for my prefolds in the day.

And do you just throw them in with the diapers for washing, or do it separately? The washing instructions say warm wash, low temp dry, which is not how I do my dipes!

I use them as a "topper" to my JoeyBunz inserts for pocket diapers, and I've also used them as a boost to AIOs.

As far as washing goes: if you purchased colors, you must wash them the first time on HOT ALONE or they will bleed all over everything else you wash.

After this initial wash, I have washed them and dried them with my diapers as per usual and they are just fine.

I, too, trifold them and put them on top of a JB in my FBs. And I also wash them w/ my other diaper laundry on hot. One warning--they're pretty staticky. When I take them out of the drier, all my wipes are suctioned to them and I have to peel them off. :LOL

This, I'm sure, is a silly question..but what are the benefits of these towels?

I have both the Wal Mart and the Sam's Club yellow (I like these better but they are too long for my pockets!). The benefit is they are super absorbant and reasonably trim. I use mine to also boost a Joey Bunz. And as a pocket stuffer alone.

I got mine at Costco. Washed them separately because they do bleed. I cut them into 10" x 4" pieces and sewed two together to make doublers for my AIO's. I wash & dry them with my AIO inserts.

Are you guys using them against your babies' skin? I had read not to do that, as they can be kind of "scratchy"....what is your experience with that, if that's how you use them?

I use them to stuff pocket dipes with, and they absorb great. I've used them as-is, and have cut some down to fit better in HHs. I've also wrapped them in a Gerber prefold when all my other prefolds were in the wash, and they did fine

I've always washed & dried mine with my dipes, and they're fine. (Who cares if they shrink? Not that I've noticed that, although the edges do curl a bit.)

I actually haven't loved them for diapering, although I sometimes add them to a hemp insert in a pocket, but I DO like them for wiping condensation off my car windows on chilly mornings. :LOL (We don't have a garage.)

I would feel weird about putting them right up against a baby's skin. Or anyone's. I would use them as pocket stuffers or as doublers that would go under the diaper (or between the layers of a flat).

Leomom, the benefit of these towels is that they are cheap--less than $1 most of the time (I can get a 6-pack for $5 at Target; I don't shop at H**lmart), as opposed to like $5 for a MOE insert.

I would never put them against the skin. I can't stand to touch them so I won't use them (they stick to my skin and cause me to get really rough patches). I had some MOE inserts that were microfiber and I sold them all because I couldn't stand to touch them. I have heard that they can cause tiny cuts if they are used against the skin and I believe it. Use them for pocket stuffers.

my nighttime system (until i find a better/natural fiber one) is

1 medium Joeybunz
1 small joeybunz
wrapped in a MF towel

My theory is that the MF towel isn't THAT absorbant but it "grabs" the moisture quickly and wicks it to the JoeyBunz

who knows? But it works

I DO hate the feel though

I used to use them as pocket stuffers but I have all hemp now, but I keep a few around if I run out of doublers, they work very well like that. I think they are absorbent, and they absorb fast, so I'd put them right under the fleece of a pocket.

I wouldn't put them up against her skin though. I do use them as a towel in the bottom of the sink when giving her a bath, but it's soaked so that doesn't count (it dries fast and is kinda grippy)

But I use them for everything now, they make great dishtowels and kitchen/cleaning rags!

I use the ones from h*llmart, and have never had a bleeding problem. I tri fold them into my HHs and FBs, and I've been thinking about cutting them down to use as liners in fitteds, but really have just been too lazy. The ones I have are super soft, so I'm not worried about putting them next to my sons skin.....I just haven't done it. I can actually trifold two and stuff a FB with them when I need a really trim diaper and they've always worked great......no leaks. And I've used those with a hemparoo for night and they work great too.
