We vaccinated my first child and then, after some research, have decided to delay DD's vaccinations, possibly indefinately. However, I still need to do MUCH research to determine what vaccinations will be avoided altogether and what we'll delay, and for what reasons.

But, someone at my mom's Drop-in center made a few comments at me yesteryday:

*I, apparently, need to tell everyone at all the schools, programs, churches, playgroups, neighbours, ect that my daughter is unvaccinated so that they can protect their own children from her

*not vaccinating is a disservice to public health and not just a parental choice: it is a problem for public health and should be illegal

*the age old "she won't be allowed in school" (which isn't a problem for this homeschooling mama anyway...lol...not to mention I know the forms to fill out should I enroll her someday)

How do you respond, specifically to the first two? Like I said, I still have much research to do...but I would like to be prepared for these questions should they come up in the near future, before all my research is done.

Thank you ladies!
Emily

Maybe you should keep it to yourself:
Um, why? Don't you believe vaccines protect your child? Do you ask your child's friend's parents, teachers, clergy, neighbors for their vaccine reccords? The CDC reccommends adult boosters for many of those childhood vaccines. Doctors, particularly OBs are notoriously non-compliant when it comes to their own vaccines. Did you ask your OB if he had recently been vaccinated for Rubella?

I have found that vaccinations are the disservice to public health. Have you read the list of tabled vaccine injuries? I'll e-mail them to you. Now let me think, which one of YOUR parenting decisions that you make to protect YOUR child do I want to be made illegal? Hmmm....

Really? Apparently you allow things to be injected into your child that you know nothing about. The first thing I learned was about vaccination was exemptions for school.

my first question to you is why does this other person know your dd's vax status?

because really...it's none of her business.

and clearly she is admitting her ignorance with the statements that she made.

I know I shouldn't have let it slip...normally I keep my weirdness (homebirthing, extended nurser) to myself around mainstream folks. LOL! A friend brought it up when they were talking about the 'next set of shots' by saying, "Mallory hasn't had her shots, right?" *sigh*

Just keep vax stuff to yourself until you *really* know your scientific reasoning.
Weirdly, after you're comfortable with your own choices, people can sense it (or something?) and it ceases to be an issue.

dd would not ever inject one drop of vaccine into her children. She is totally secure and at peace with not vaccinating them and although everyone basically knows (it was discussed at LLL and went on from there...) no one has EVER tried to exclude her or question her about it. She is very social and is involved in lots of mommy-baby groups, music/language classes, gettogethers....

yes.

that has been my experience as well. confidence really does go a long way, and others definitely sense that attitude.

I'd say that I also thought so (the very same thing, that "no-vax=free ride") until I learned the facts. Now my kids will get ANY shots over my very dead very cold body...
Just seems ironic to me that the children who are injected with poisons and live viruses are the ones considered healthy and the ones who are void of all this are to be feared.

Weird.

Unvaccinated children are not walking timebombs of disease, in fact, they are normally quite the opposite!

It is more magical thinking. Every human being is absolutely covered from head to toe, inside and out, with bacteria and virii and probably other weird and dangerous stuff like trace amounts of various toxic chemicals. Hey, we are all probably a bit radioactive, too. But if you have been injected with vaccines, you are automatically safer to be around and significantly less likely to spread disease. And if you believe this, I have a moderately priced rabbit's foot that will protect you from bad luck, too.

I would ask...what do you get your child vaccinated for? If you are fearful of my child being a carrier of something...do you not consider your child safe because your child is UTD on vaccines...so she is safe right?

Secondly, would she like you making parenting decisions for her child?

I would TTA with the PP ~ I think that the opposite is so true ~ vaccinations are the disservice to public health.

Why would you have to tell anyone anything about your child's vaccine status? You need to act in your own best self interest. Period. End of discussion.
