Ok, this seems so silly to me....I don't think I've ever seen this posted before, but I am having the hardest time rinsing ds's hair in the tub! We take a bath with him, and I used to be able to lay him down on my outstretched legs, but now that he's bigger, he just won't relax and he tries to flip and squirm and it's just a disaster! Any tips?

My ds HATES having his hair washed. I usually apply water with a cloth and then to rinse, make the cloth wet and squeeze small amounts of water over his hair to get suds off. It takes a while, way longer than a jug (which I use with dd) but it is an improvement that he will let me do that. He won't lie back so I point to a spot he has to look at so his head is tipped backwards and the water doesn't dribble and I have a towel at the ready!

My Ds whom is 2 1/2 HATEDDDD having his hair washed... it wasn't like this from birth... he came home from his dads place and would never let water be poured on his head again...

anyways , just recently i started a "OMG OMG CLOSE YOUR EYES, QUICK!!!!! 1,2,3 *POUR*" thing... lol... it seems to work.. he gets all caught up in closing his eyes and me being funny he forgets about the water being poured on his head... he has even laughed a few times instead of crying

I lay her down in the tub (after I've drained out all the water, if we've had a bath) and I use a little bucket. She doesn't like it, but I make all sorts of faces and silly noises and try to make it a little better for her.

Great idea! Thanks!

I've been lying DD down in the tub and splooshing the water gently over her head. It works ok but she's not a huge fan. She doesn't scream or anything but she doesn't look happy about it either.

I use a small cup with water, or use my hand to cup water over his head. I use gentle shampoo so I'm not worried about it getting in his eyes. I figure this is the best way to get him used to it! I should start telling him to close his eyes though!!

I am so glad to know I'm not the only one who has trouble with this. I thought there might be some trick that I didn't know about. My ds has a thick mess of hair, so a washcloth just doesn't do the trick. And believe me, I only wash his hair about twice per week or when he gets his dinner all over it!

I love hearing all of your tips! Thanks!

Your babes are too young for this, but when they get older, my best tip: hang a poster high on the wall or on the ceiling for them to look at while you rinse their hair. This works great for toddlers - I'll ask them about items on the poster while I am rinsing and it keeps them looking up at the right angle.

Do you really need to shampoo at all? We have only used it twice on our five-month-old, to rinse out the oil I used on her scalp for cradle cap. I think regular shampoo for little ones is a J&J marketing ploy.

But having said that, I guess there are times when you need a little soap. Can you cradle him in your arms as though you'd be nursing him, and use a wet cloth with the free hand? Our four-year-old stands in the shower with her hands on the wall in front of her and puts her head back. Works for a quick rinse.

Good luck!

My babe (13 mo.) doesn't mind a wet head so I tell her when it's time to rinse and pour a bowlful of water on her head. She wipes the water from her eyes and continues playing. She might just be mellow about this, but we've done it since she sat up on her own and I think she's learned that it's no big deal to have water on her face. We are working on the 'look up' aspect, but not quite there yet =)

I just use an old "brita" pitcher and pour the water right over her head, it runs down her face and everything. I figure I'll get her used to it now (she's only 4 months). I wouldn't say she actually *likes* it, but she doesn't protest too much, just gives me a rather surprised look for the most part, and she always closes her eyes, I think it's an instinct.

my ds freaks when we try to lay him down in the water... he also flips if I try to pour it over his head... I've resorted to desperate measures... I take a shower with him and hold him on my hip and just quickly stick him under the water flow for a few seconds... And sing "its raining its pouring" to him... We made a game out of it....
