DS is almost three months old. He is a big time spitter upper. Today though, he has been spitting up more times and it is (pardon if this is TMI) chunckier, thicker and smellier. There isn't much more of it in volume and it isn't projectile. He was exposed (marginally) to the stomach flu two days ago. His tempermant seems the same (certainly he has had happy times today).<br><br>
How do tell the difference between spit up and throw up?<br><br>

If there isn't more volume and it is not leaving his mouth forcefully, it's spit up. You will know without a doubt, when your baby vomits... the action of it looks the same as when an older child or adult vomits.

I was about to say the same thing. My older son has never thrown up in my presence, and both my boys were yurpers...but when the baby got the tummy bug last month, there was no doubt he was vomiting 'cause he got the heave-eys.

<br><b>Thank you!</b> A nurse at my ped's office tried to argue with me that my baby was only spitting up, not throwing up. Ugh she pissed me off! Trust me, it was throw up!!! I'm not an idiot!<br><br>

Smell is a big one too - spit up smells different than vomit. Spit up doesn't make me want to vomit myself - vomit sure does!!
